Until Daybreak by nysan (Translated by HiragiHOUX)
Length: ~30 minutes

You all know FNAF, right? That one horror game that became so popular that it inspired a whole sub genre of horror games. Well, Until Daybreak is one of those largely FNAF inspired games, except at least it tries to be original unlike a lot of fangames out there. And to a certain degree, it actually manages to be quite a nice game, but only to that certain degree.

I don't know about you but that doesn't look like a kind old man to me.

The game starts off quite effective. It has a promising story. Of course, this is game based on gameplay rather than story, so I wasn't expecting too much, and I wasn't satisfied with what I was given. It's original and interesting for what it's worth.
The graphics are quite good, and the art is well drawn and stylish. At first the really spacious mapping kinda set me off, but eventually it made sense since the game is largely based on avoiding a monster.
Speaking of said monster, it's never really explained what he is. I understand the gray man, he's a grim reaper of sorts coming to collect souls. However, we never get told ANYTHING about that monster. Not to mention it doesn't look like something from an rpg horror game as much as it looks like something straight out of those old donkey kong games.

The monster design isn't even scary, it's just quirky.

Now let's talk about my biggest gripe with this game: the confusing gameplay. What I understood at first was that there was a monster roaming around the house and you had to prevent it from getting to your sister. That seems to be the case, however the monster simply becomes ''invisible'' at times. What I mean is that, for example, even when I stand right next to my sister's door, it can get in without me seeing it, even though there is no other way to get into that room other than that door. Not to mention whenever it's chasing you, you have turn off your flashlight, and you can't do that while moving, so you basically have to STOP MOVING in the middle of a chase scene to turn it off, usually causing the monster to catch up to you. The cameras which are supposed to show you around the house are useless too, they never show you ANYTHING. I had them turned on and looked around the entire house multiple times but I couldn't see anything at all. Other than that, the gameplay was really repetitive too. Here, I'll tell you how I beat the game with a picture.

The entire game summarized into one picture.

I don't think Until Daybreak is exactly worth playing for yourself because of the buggy gameplay, but you might at least want to watch an lp. The story and graphics are good except for that monster, but the quirkiness of the gameplay just doesn't make it worth it.
I give the game three paranormal activity dolls out of five.
