Simple but well done and fun!

Hello!
I found this game just by chance and after playing ti to the beginning to the end I realized I had to review it because it surprised me a lot:

First thing: this game is 99% Rtp, graphics and music included, BUT how well they are used! Mapping is simply excellent and despite the few resources used the locations are pleasant and you will always know where you can and you can't go.

Dialogues are good, really good for the most part. The main characters of the game are just the three party members, and a couple of others including a bad guy, but they have many funny exchanges.

Combat is the standard Rpgmaker system with side view and attaching charsets. Encounters are random only when sailing, otherwise you can see and avoid opponents (pay attention to the ghosts that can become invisibile). Nice, even if nothing new or strange... compared to the rest of the gameplay!

Yes, because besides a couple of easy puzzles, some optional minigames and an easy and short stealth part, that rare quite good anyway, the main part of the demo is a big puzzle in which you actually change the map by changing the season. That's actually a brilliant and perfectly executed idea: having the same map in four different versions (both flora and fauna change too) is something funny and clever (I just had problem finding the smelling salts, but nothing too hard, anyway exploration is part of the game!) as you notice the changes and you find ways to exploit them.

Another thing I liked is the humor used: the protagonist is a reluctant hero, and he's the main source of funny dialogues, but at the same time you will find no wacky weirdness or odd situations. It's a lighthearted parody of the fantasy rpg genre, something I prefer to those games that exaggerate intoducing out of place characters and absurd events non-stop.

So what's bad? Well the game is rather short and it's ends leaving many questions open not only about the quest but also about the relation between the party members.
Another weak point is combat as it is nothing new or particularly interesting, with characters belonging to the usual classes: warrior, magic user/healer and archer. Well besides this I cannot find anything bad in this demo, it was certainly done with lot of precision and attention to the details.

The Verdict
IF completed this will surely be a nice and cute parody game (does not need to be very long, in my opinion), I liked how this game demonstrated that you can do a lot and very well just using the basic rtps. Besides the nice graphics, it's a simple game and an enjoyable experience for a couple of hours.

Thanks for the review. I really wasn't expecting another one, so this made my day. I'm glad you enjoyed the game.

I'm sure I'll get it one day, but getting the second dungeon working is proving to be a lot harder than I expected and I'm focusing on getting a tech demo out for PSI Dogs.
Thanks for the reply!

Hm I should try your other games then!
By the way, it will be hard matching this quality in the second dungeon, so... good luck!

Bounty Angel is the only other one with a download. It's really short, and a bit different from usual RPGmaker games, though,

Thanks. I'm going to need it.

Well, "short" isn't bad, and "different" is good to me!

The problem is that when you do something really good it's hard to do something better, but this can be done!
