RM2K3 AGILITY: A SIMPLE SYSTEM

RM2k3 Agility: A basic system.

RM2k3 Agility: A basic system.

As we all know everybody’s favored ancient pirated game making software has number of crippling problems but the most irritating of them is how the engine handles the agility stat. Now I’m hardly an expert by any stretch of my deluded imagination but here’s what I do.

There are no doubt better systems but this is an EASY one that can be done by anybody.

100

The key number is 100. It’s easy to remember and easy the do the math in your head.

100 is the agility of an average hero or monster. Other characters can be faster or slower (80-120) but 100 is your base number.

Go into each of your classes or heroes and set their Agility scores to a number near 100. For example the Fighter has 100, the Thief 110, The Priest 105 and the Wizard 95. This base agility should generally not increase with each level unless Bob the Lumberjack is slowly turning into a Ninja. (In which case you may have a plot problem.)

You could have item raise or decrease agility but be careful not to make it too much. A ten point change is a big deal.

For monsters simply give them all an agility score based on how fast or slow they compared to your basic hero. Try to give a few points difference so monsters do not all attack at the same time. Make ‘clones’ of the same monster with slightly different stats if you think it will help. If you do make clones remember you can give them different item drops for variety sakes.

Be warned that skills that effect Agility will have to be handled careful and that Conditions that Double Agility (Haste) or Halve it (Slow) will be very powerful and should not be over used (which I have to admit I do.)

It should be noted that a LOT of people feel that using a Slow type skill in RM2k3 is simply adding insult to injury by slowing down an already slow battle system. Certainly avoid using Slow when there is only one character in the party.

So that covers agility. Now you only have two broken stats to worry about instead of three.

This might be flawed. I don't have hard evidence as to the calculations, but I think that accuracy boost from Agility, if there is such a thing, is lesser than the evasion boost from Agility. I noticed that when using this system, the Miss rate goes WAY up for both enemies and heroes...

Use a lower agility score? Start with 50 as your base. or even 20.
