----Intro----
Don't you hate it when you talk to a NPC in a game that they always repeat what there saying? Do you want NPC's to talk normally and make them more realistic? Well if you do, read on...
----Step 1----
First create a event and change the sprite. Make a message saying whatever you want to. I'm writing:
Hello, young boy. Do you want a apple?
Do that or do what you want to write.
----Step 2----
After the message, I'm putting choices down saying Yes and No. If you say yes, you get the apple, otherwise, if you don't say yes, the old lady says "Ok. Come back if you want it."
You then put a variable there and name it whatever. I'm naming it Want Apple. Make the variable 20 at least.
Do that for after yes aswell but name it something different like Got Apple.
----Step 3----
Place a conditional Branch on top of all those events. The conditional Branch should have no ELSE Case and make it have variable Got Apple 20 or at least.
Do the same thing for the variable Want Apple.
Then if the variable Got Apple is 20 the messaging will be different. Place another message saying "You've already got a apple."
Do the same thing for Want Apple and the message saying "You want the apple now?"
----Conclusion----
Hello, young boy. Do you want a apple?
YES:
Ok. Here you go.
If talked to again:
You already have an apple.
NO:
Ok. Come back to me if you change your mind.
If talked to again:
You want the apple now?

Sweet, easy to follow, Gotta try 2morow! Do you know how to make things like.
-You may not enter without a sword!
Then, you get the sword and the guy can say:
-You have the sword! Come in.
If you don't have the sword, though, he'll shoo you away... Do you know what I mean? Can you help with that?

Well, yeah.
Firstly, you make a NPC (event) with a person sprite. Make it action key and make a message 'You may not enter without a sword!'
Then under the message make a conditional branch or if your using rpg maker 2000 a fork condition. Make it if switch 'Got sword' is on and add else branch. In the branch or fork make a message 'You have a sword! Come in!'
and on the else make a message 'Go away! You don't have a sword!'
Then later when you get the sword make switch 'Got sword' ON.
Understand? If you still have trouble PM me.

You can really just say
"You can't enter without a sword!" Then make a new page has to have switch "Sword Obtained" On. Then when your character gets a sword turn the switch on. Then simply put a different message on the second page like. "You have a sword, you may enter!'
