There, And Back Again: The Long, Arduous and Mostly Uninteresting Tale of the Ill-fated Metis Engine

I think you made a typo at this part of the post

...but there were four in particular that caused us to seriously reevaluate what we were doing: 1) ... 2) ... 2) ... 3)...

Ooh, a mechanics question! My favorite.

Just thought of one story-related question that I feel that the Our Eternity ending (and maybe even the Vel act) can bring some clarity to.

VSA and VS1 spoilers

As I manage to compile the data from what has been released of Contention so far:

The only way someone can become an archon is by having the "archon-seed" getting passed down from a parent. So unless one of Dakura's parents' was already on archon when Dakura was born, I'm not sure how this will fit together in a way that doesn't contradict something in Contention.

(Well, one option is that Ejaro is hiding something or straight out lying, but I just can't see any motivation for it)
That's actually not the whole picture, which is understandable since you're not given a whole lot of information about Archons in VS1. What you're describing is the exception and not the rule. We'll call people who fit that description "genetic Archons" and the only people who fall under that category are

Auria and her mother.

If I recall correctly, one of the memoirs in Maladorr Manor refers to making a huge breakthrough in creating the first genetic Archon. General case Archons are created manually through an enchantment ritual and produce regular human offspring.
That answers some questions, but also creates some new ones. Will wait until I've played the game though

And once again, sorry if I've may have sounded a bit angry on twitter. Wasn't my intention

We didn't actually make the decision that long ago. The only reason I held off on making it is because I wanted to get enough work done that I was sure we were going ahead with it before making the announcement. I didn't want to say "hey guys, we're moving to Unity" and then a month later, say "actually, it turns out that this key feature we need to implement won't work with Unity, so we're not doing it after all."

Basically, I needed to get all the most risky features working to make sure they would work with Unity.
But this is still big enough that I'd rather have a false alarm than feeling like I'm being kept in the dark again (especially as a backer of the project).

Once again, for a very long time, just about everything kept and kept pointing towards that Contention CE was going to get finished before Awakening without even a hint about the opposite. Even for a short period after the second kickstarter had ended, because so much had been pointing towards it and the information hadn't been coming from just one lone member on the team, I was still very certain about that Act3+ was going to get finished before Awakening.

I just don't want this to happen again to anyone.

I've had some Contention players run through the alpha for just that reason and it doesn't seem to have negatively affected their enjoyment of it at all. I'm confident it won't be a problem. As I've said before, the convergence of the narrative will happen later on.
Ok, but if I remember correctly, you did argue at one point to as of why it was better if VS1:CE was released before Awakening from a narrative POV.

Edit: I meant more like if there's any risk of this affecting all the releases (both VSA and Act3+) in a way that could force players of Contention to wait with playing VSA after a certain act in order to prevent them from getting into the weird middle-ground I'm talking about (which would be really sad)

Although I don't know if you're familiar, the model I'm using here is the approach taken with Fate/stay Night and its prequel, Fate/zero: players of the original game already know how the prequel will end, so the author made the the emphasis not on the ending, but how it arrives at the ending, which you don't know anything about even if you'd played the original.
Haven't played the games so it doesn't tell me much

I want to say two things about this right now

When I on VS1s RMN-page said that I wanted more openness earlier, this is just the kinds of things that I was talking about. Personally, I'd rather have false alarms about this kinds of things than having to know about it without any forewarning at all.

And is players of Contention in any danger of getting into the middle-ground where they know to much to be able to enjoy it as new players, but not enough to enjoy it as old players.

How's the development coming along?

Aside from Tidebreaker, there's not planned to be any DLC other than the additional episodes and, if that changes, it'll be made available to KS backers free of charge (e.g., anyone who pledged for EP1 will pDLC, anyone who pledged for every episode will get all DLC).
I meant more of like a season pass that includes all upcoming episodes
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you've said that all upcoming episodes will technically be distributed as DLC to the first one

Vacant Sky Awakening: Paradox Prince

Saw the KS-update yesterday. Got some questions.

What platforms will you be rolling out beta testing to first?
Are you planning on making some kind of Season Pass available for the game?
Is the PC distribution platform decided yet?

I also saw that you where going into Steam Greenlight. I have no doubt that will make it, since you are releasing the game on more platforms than I've ever seen. I'm currently 95% sure that I'll take the Android version as a KS reward(I'll make the final call when you send out the questionnaire) but if you make it onto Steam, I'll buy the game there as well.

Is it just me that absolutely loathes random battles?

And also a question. If random encounters is bad, why implement a RNG into a game?
