I managed to resolve it. The template I made the sheet straight from had $ in front of it, which somehow messed with how the engine reads the sheet.

For stuff like this I draw colored marks on the edges of each frame. If you draw a red line on the left side and a green line on the right side, when you play it in game you can see which color is showing. Giving you an idea of which way to move things. You can use more colors or specific marks to make it easy to identify the frames when you test it.

I did kind of do that. I was using Gimp and put a layer underneath in a sort of checkered pattern. I made sure that in each frame the distance was the same from the edge...

This sprite I made seems to be improperly spaced, because when imported into RMXP the character moves left and right by single pixels while walking about. However, I checked the spacing so many times and simply can't figure out what's wrong.
