DSi
I couldn't find a topic about this. I looked. Sorry if I missed it.
Does anyone have one? How is it compared to the DS lite? Ever since I bought a PSP, my DS lite screen seems so puny to me, so I'm thinking of getting the DSi, but it is overpriced, and a .8cm isn't that amazing.
Any thoughts from people who have one? I hear while they're selling like hotcakes in Japan, they're not doing so hot in NA.

Dragon Quest IX
I know there's some Dragon Quest fans out there. The gaming event of the decade is happening in Japan this Saturday. I'm broke, so I'll be on the sidelines chilling, but it's still pretty intense stuff. It's amazing how apeshit advertising is getting for the game. Posters are in all video stores, convenience stores, and many other places. I'm guessing it'll be the best selling Dragon Quest yet by far.
The game itself looks really fun and like something that's easy to pick up and put down. I personally am not too interested in the multi-player, despite knowing that it's probably been finished for 2 years, and just been fine tuned since then so it has perfect balance.
Who's excited or has an opinion on the game? I'll probably be picking it up on the 21st (pay day) if it's not sold out.

Wii Sports Resort
I bought it today.
Sword Fighting is one of the funnest things ever. I can't wait to play it 2 player.
Flying around in the plane is also good times.
All the controls are super smooth.
The only game I don't like too much so far is Frisbee, but maybe I'm missing something about it.
Loving Wii Motion Plus too.

Any preferences on Persona and Growlanser
I'm pretty broke these days, but can probably afford one new game with my next pay cheque, and two of my choices are two new RPGs that just came out over here. Since I think may some people have more experience with these series than I do, maybe someone could offer me an opinion?
Persona and Growlanser were just released for PSP. Anyone play either on PSX or an emulator or something? Any opinions on which is better, what they're about etc.?
If not, all good... just thought I'd check and see.

VC Japan April/May
Majora's Mask in April, and Final Fantasy in May!
Landgrisser or whatever it's called is also coming out in April.
I will be a busy boy. There's also promise of more Final Fantasies coming to VC!

Working Designs
This was my favourite company since they released Lunar: SSSC until they went under. I was a big fan of their localizing philosophy (in terms of westernizing things, and going all out). Lunar and Lunar 2 are two of the best RPGs released on the RPG. Growlanswer Generations was an amazing deal of two great strategy RPGs (infact, I got to the end of Growlanser III and never finished it.. I really should).
Alundra was bloody amazing. Arc the Lad Collection was a gem.
Discuss your experiences.. I'll write more later.

Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume impressions
So I gave in and paid the 2000 yen (20 bucks) for it today.

On the cover in small printing is has the epic line, "Destiny by sinner sought. Tragedy by power wrought"
This is the first Valkyrie Profile game that I've played. I've heard the first one was amazing, and haven't heard anything about the rest. Although, I remain skeptical since after the merge, Square Enix has taken a lot of series into the dirt.
This game is a strategy/RPG. I think that's unlike the others. It's battle system is a little different than most strategy/RPGs though. If you attack an enemy, you go into another screen where you both get a chance to attack. If one character has moved into a position where he can attack an enemy and waits, and then another character also moves into position and attacks the enemy, then both characters are in the other screen and are double teaming the enemy. This leads to the ability to do combos. Different characters have different ranges of their attack sphere.
So hypothetically, if you move your first character to attack an enemy, it's 1 on 1. Then for your next characters turn, if you go to the same enemy and attack, it's 2 on 1, and then the next character 3 on 1 etc.
It's split up into "players turn" and "enemies turn". No speed statistics.
In the first 20 minutes, there's been a lot of story and not much actual playing. Through the massive amounts of text, everything has had voice acting to accompany it. It really adds a great atmosphere to the game, and seems quite well done (the only other voice acting I've heard for a DS game was FFIV, and it's better than that in my opinion).
So all in all, it was worth it's price.
I'll play more later and post more impressions.
Oh, the story is about some war going on and being from a family impoverished because of woman Gods and all being hungry, so you join the war with your best friend and are in a squadron fighting demons and whatnot. Other stuff happens in the prologue that could be considered spoilers, and maybe people wouldn't want that.

Wii Music
Has anyone played it? I played it for the first time, and I thought it was really fun. Being a conductor, or the mini game with the bells.
All the different instruments as well is pretty intense.
I'm considering buying it in a month or two.
Before playing it, I thought it'd be really really lame.

Chrono Trigger DS
Just picked it up. I'm always amazed at how well anime sequences translate onto the DS. Great. I've never seen them (haven't played the PSX version), and they were awesome to see. It really makes the game feel a lot more Japanese-esque though I guess.
Japanese version comes in Japanese or English, which is cool. Starting now. Anyone else getting it? It's one of those games that everyone loves and still isn't overrated.

Final Fantasy IV DS (didn't find an old one)
The fuck? The graphics all seem out of whack and unprofessional. Sometimes the camera shows areas of the map and when the angles changes and that area of the map is covered up, it's inaccessible. I've found many strange invisible walls. The walking motion looks like floating more than walking. The map on the bottom screen seems very tacked on and some from a second or third tier RPG, not one of leading series of the genre.
Wow! The voice acting is really rad. They really redid the script (IV for the Super Famicom had no kanji, and they invented huge big kanji words this time). I think it reads well, and the music and mood is great. Cut scenes are overall very well done. Cinematic camera angles and whatnot.
Overall, seems so different from the Dragon Quest remakes and less professional than Final Fantasy III for the DS. Strange. I wonder why?
I've just left the castle and am on my way to the valley of Mist. I'll post more impressions later.
If there is an old topic a few months old, I really prefer starting fresh rather than reviving an old thread that everyone reads through again thinking it's new only to realize halfway through it's not and get angry at me.
