I remember joining this site 12 years ago (Darigaaz, I'm old), and one of the first games I saw/noticed was Avarice. Now, there was a cool-looking game that was made in the context of an event that took about two weeks of dev-time. Meanwhile, all I had at the time was a remake of a game made in 2001 that I didn't necessarily update beyond going to a new engine.

It was not a good game. I'm not even sure if the fixes that were applied later made it any better. However, one could also argue that I didn't find my stride until, like, eight or so games later. Maybe eleven.

So, I guess the too-long-didn't-read version is: don't give up!

The idea that everyone would go out of their way to make fun of you for making an attempt is mostly in your own head. It really applies to a very small subset of trolls and haters whose opinions on anything aren't worth investing in anyway. Most of us here are on our own development journey with our own games and understand what it was like to be new to something.
