K, feeling stupid

Well, it certainly has been a while. But yes, I looked through the stickied threads and some of the threads on the first few pages and noticed nothing asking what I am about to...

But could someone link me to the site in which I can buy RPGMaker XP (I believe that is a good version, if there are any better show me them.) Owing to the fact that I now actually have a good income I can actually buy myself a copy.... I'm unsure if there is an existing translated version of RPGMaker but any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Few updates. A bit more information but not a great deal x_x;

Going to be keeping the storyline battles only theme and have certain puzzles give EXP etc. Both Ignis and Kurayami will have their own soundtrack unique to their characters, fitting the mood of the town/battle they're in.

The world is in a state of full scale war so, many towns and cities are going to be underpopulated, most of the survivors being young soldiers.

The war is between two empires with a rebellion resistance to each empire and a single resistance which wants no part in any of the wars.

In certain battles Kurayamis and Ignis' "skill" command will be replaced with the "Duel" command giving them each a few skills unique to that command list, after these said battles their normal skills will return to them.


A slight piece of the story here now.

"These wars had been going on for far too long, everyone in our neutral resistance thought so, we were barely forced into combat, but in the times we were we had been greatly outnumbered in each battle... It was only recently that Xaoc, our leader had decided that it was time for us to act without provocation, time to make sure that all beings knew their place in this world.."


That's all the updates I have so far, I will try to get some artwork done but my scanner is down so I'll have to find another means to get it on my computer, I'll probably resort to using paint (Not the best of ideas I know, but I have a feeling I can make it work.)

A few things here are still subject to heavy change, not sure when the next update'll be.

The game will follow the paths of two seperate characters
Kurayami and Ignis, the player will switch character at certain points during the game in order to gain a full understanding of the storyline.

The only battles will be for the storyline which means that there will be no random encounters, however, certain puzzles and events will increase the level of either character (Deciding whether or not to keep that).

There will be no world map but I am trying to figure out ways to make prevously visited places accessable toward the end of the game for optional bosses/side quests.


I know that this isn't a great deal more from my first post but now I know which direction I'm heading in and how to go about making this game memorable in the very least. Oh yeah, and for one final update I am debating whether or not to use already existing music for this game or to go looking for someone willing to create and OST for it.

Ok, so I have some basic and rough ideas for my debut game now. It's still under heavy construction though, so some of the stuff listed here may very well change or get cut completely. Once I buy RPG Maker XP the work will begin x_x;

The Battle System will be in 3rd person (I know it's probably gonna take me a while to get even the smallest bit of the game done like this x_x.)
Every event in the game will happen for a reason, there will be no random boss encounters just to fill space, hell even the optional bosses and sidequests will have a reason for being there.
The world map will be big (Debating whether to keep the world map or not though.)

The main villian actually has a reason for being the villian and will not be the usual Cliché that most people have come to expect from video game villians nowadays.


May not be a great deal but it's what I've got so far (May not be all that great sounding either.) but as I said it's still under very heavy construction. heh. My next update'll probably be character names etc. keep watching this thread x_x;.

Thanks for the help everyone, once I can afford to buy RPG Maker XP I will as at the moment I am in a bit of financial difficulty x_x;and I am having to spend most of my money getting the bus to college every week. But I should be able to finally start work once I get it ^^

Your Priorities

Yes, making the world feel alive should be one of the top things on the list, however, for me it would be the storyline, someone like me likes to make it so that nothing is there for no reason (Except the minor NPCs that you see around towns etc.) Someone like me likes to make sure that everything actually happens for a reason.

I like to makesure that nothing is overly cliche in my storyline, the villian needs to have a good enough reason to be a villian, and they need to have a deep, interesting background and a complex character. These are the things that I work on first (Characters along with the storyline.) Once that is done it is the atmosphere, then gameplay.

I like to make sure that everything is of good quality though so it wouldn't really mater what I prioritise I would want to make sure that everything was the best I could make it.

Some questions

I have had RPGMaker XP for a while but never really used it (Not really been able to get the hang of it). But I want to change that, obviously I'm going to be a complete amature (if that) so I need some help.


Ok first thing's first. I am aware that it is possible to make different sprite sheets for characters, my question here is how do I go about such things?

Second, after that I am also aware that it is possible to make FMV-Like sequences where the character on-screen moves around on there own and it is possible to make fight scenes and such, how do I do that?

Finally, I have seen a gew screenshots in where RPGMaker XP uses life bars in a third person battle system (at least I think it's XP), I've looked around quite a bit and not found any RPG Maker with this battle system, the question here do people rewrite the code or whatever themselves? And if so how?


I am unsure if I should actually be posting this on this board so if needbe just move to to wherever it should be.
