Is Far Cry 2 even worth getting at this point?

So I've been hearing a lot about Far Cry 3 and I'm undoubtedly gonna get it. But unfortunately, I can't right now. I live on a budget and can only afford to spend around $80 a month on games, and I've already spent $20 and I'm planning to buy Luigi's Mansion 2 which is about $44 after tax. I've noticed that Far Cry 2 is only $14 at my local Gamestop, so I can afford it this month. So I was thinking of getting it first. I know the two games have nothing to do with each other and that I could skip Far Cry 2 and go straight to Far Cry 3. But I figured, if it was any good, then I could play it to pass the time. But I was wondering, at this point, is Far Cry 2 even worth owning? Or is Far Cry 3 so superior that I should just ignore 2 all together and wait to get 3?

Shoul I give Dark Souls a chance?

Hey, heard of Dark Souls? Of course you have, no one has shut up about it since it came out. Anyway, the game is only $16 dollars where I live and I was thinking of picking up a copy. I'm very hesitant to though, not because of it's reputation as one of the hardest modern RPGs, but because I didn't like it's predecessor, Demon's Souls. But I've read that Dark Souls makes a number of changes to Demon's Souls formula. These changes, so I've read, are suppose to make the game more difficult, but also more balanced. So Dark Souls is more challenging then Demon's Souls, but presents more of a fair challenge. Not having played Dark Souls I have no idea if this is true.

So, can anyone who has played Dark Souls tell me if they feel it's worth $16 to someone like me, who enjoys hardcore RPGs but didn't enjoy Demon's Souls? Because if it's not I can always pick up my copy of Etrian Odyssey.

EDIT: Damn, typo in the title. Please ignore it. It's obvious what it was meant to say.

How to use these character sets?

Hey, I dunno if this is really something to place in the help request section, but I need help with something so it seems as good a place as any. I found these cool sprites at the closet resources, and I wanted to see what they looked like in-game. But since they're bigger then the average VX sprite, I can't figure out how to use them. I tried using them as events and placed them tile by tile, but they just ended up segmented. Here are the sprites in question:

If anyone could help me out with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Discussion: Terminator RPG

I'd like to discuss for a moment the possibility of an RPG based off the Terminator film series. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think that one could work?

Personally, I think one would work much better if it were set in the future during the machine war. That opens up a lot of possibilities, for one it would be much easier to incorporate original characters and Terminator models.

The Dreamcast games yiu never had

Ah, the Sega Dreamcast. A console truly ahead of it's time. Well, it was for awhile until the PS2 came along. How many people owned the Dreamcast and how many still own it? I had a Dreamcast when I was younger, and I still have a Dreamcast (although it's not the same one I had in my youth). Now for all you Dreamcast owners, what were the top games you really wanted for the console but never got? It doesn't matter if you have them now, I mean during the consoles short lifetime. What were the Dreamcast games you wanted while the Dreamcast was (more or less) alive but never got?

EDIT: Damn, typo in the topic title. Well I guess everyone knows what the word is suppose to be.

Anyone know any good vampire games?

Does anyone know if theres any good vampire games here on RMN? The only one I know of on here is Vampiros.

A "Vampire Game" in this case can count as any game with a central focus on vampires. Such as the main character being a vampire (or some kind of hybrid) or a game about hunting and killing vampires. I prefer the games in the latter category over the games in the former category.

Can anyone teach me how to make a custom battle menu layout in VX?

The title of this topic says it all.

I couldn't find a tutorial for this, I did find one for basic scripting but it didn't say anything about menu layouts, either in battle or otherwise. But it did give me some minor understating of RPG Maker VX scripting. So if anyone is good at making custom battle menu layouts, please give me some tips.

(Tips on how to make out of battle menu layouts would also be appreciated.)

I need help with a certain VX tutorial

Okay, I followed this tutorial step by step three times:

http://rpgmaker.net/tutorials/403/

But it didn't work. Whenever I defeated an enemy that I set up to increase a variable by one it did not. I've been trying for hours to get this to work, but I just gave up and decided to ask for help...again.

Can someone follow this tutorial and get it to work? Because I can't. I know your probably thinking I forgot to do something that it says needs to be done but that's not the case, I followed this tut step by step and set it up exactly how it described it should be (I can post screen shots to prove this).

And yes, I read the two tuts that came before it and got them working without any problems.

Games that use RTP graphics?

When you see a game that looks like it relies heavily on RTP graphics, would you give that game a low rating despite it's overall quality? What I mean is, would you judge the entire game based on the fact that it uses RTP graphics and completely ignore everything else, such as how those graphics are used, story, plot, characters, ect.?

The Relic System

Like I've said in other posts, I'm making a game with only one playable character, and I need a little help with some scripts. I want to make have a system in my game I call "The Relic System".

You see, the character in the game starts with some weak skills and does not learn anymore skills via leveling. Instead, he learns new skills by equipping items, called Relics. They take up the "Accessory" slot. Now, the character can only use certain skills if the corresponding relic is equipped, and can't use them when the relic is not equipped. For example:

The player has two relics in their inventory, one call "Fire Relic" and the other "Ice Relic". The player equips the Fire Relic, and can use fire attacks in battle. The player removes the Fire Relic and equips the Ice Relic. They can no longer use fire attacks in battle, but can now use ice attacks.

I also want each relic to be a double-edged sword. For example: If the Ice Relic is equipped, fire attacks will do double damage but ice attacks will heal the player.

But there's also some one-sided relics, such as one that raises attack but does nothing else. (This can be done without scripts however, so I don't need help with these)

So basically I want to make equipment that changes the player's skill set depending on whether or not it is equipped. So if anyone has a script like that, knows where to find a script like that, or can teach me to make a script like that, that'd be great.

I use RPG Maker VX.
