Mike Tyson. The day lil'me finally sent Super Macho Man to the canvas three times was great, I could never beat the World Circuit (a Nintendo Power had a password that went straight to SMM, Mr. Sandman was a fucking beast). This was it, the dream fight against Tyson! I was so hyped I didn't even write down the password to get to Tyson, it was time to throwdown!

If you ever fought Tyson you probably have a good idea what followed. See, for the first half of the first round Tyson just wants the match to end. Most other boxers have tells for what they're doing like moving their hands for a jab, moving to a side for a hook, or a quick crouch for an uppercut and they usually start with a jab or hook. Not Tyson. All he does is flash for a split second and by the time you realize what he did he's already thrown an instant knock down uppercut*. Other boxers have instant knockdowns: Bald Bull backs to the end of the arena before charging forward; Mr. Sandman pauses for a few seconds, flashes, then throws three consecutive uppercuts; Super Macho Man winds up his instant knockdown spin punch. None of them will use it again immediately if it connects. Not Tyson. He'll throw his dynamite uppercuts until the clock hits 1:30. I don't think lil'me made it even close to the first minute, his relentless assault blew lil'me away.

I never did beat Super Macho Man again, not until the world of emulators.

* Technically it'll do 95 damage if you block it which will leave you standing with 1 health if you were at full.
If it makes you feel any better, fighting the real Mike Tyson was a similar experience for most boxers. Dude hit like a truck.
Oh yeah, I heard that was an accurate representation of what he did in the ring. I'd say they conveyed him dropping his opponents seconds in pretty well!
Hearing is one thing, seeing is another. I dunno if you're a fan of boxing but even if you're not you should get a hold of his fights. I have all of them and have been watching in order. His record is about 23-0 now and doesn't have any belts yet. He's absolutely destroying these guys. It's both hilarious and scary. It's like live action Hajime no Ippo(there is a Tyson connection there). Very few of the video files are longer than 5 minutes and that includes all the intro stuff. Is this a Tyson discussion now? I'm a huge fan. I watched the documentary, but not the movie, and his new cartoon show is kinda funny. His one man show I didn't find all that interesting though?

I don't think I ever did beat him on NES. I should go back and try some time.
