Making Healing Interesting with Multiple Healing Characters
"Also, if you make a character who can both dish out a lot of damage with offensive spells and also heal the party, can you encourage the player to use both rather than just saving all their MP for healing? I suppose you could have the two types cost different resources?"
Using offensive spells power up the next healing spell you use and/or vice-versa.
A offensive spell that can heal you for the damage done if a certain condition is met.
A spell that makes you and the target swap HP, maybe temporarily... that's both an offensive and defensive spell.
There are many ways, try to make offense/defense dependent on each other.

[RMVX ACE] can anybody teach me ruby
I don't think anyone here will coach you......
You have to try and learn on your own. It may seem hard, but you can do it, anyone can do it.

Use things like codeacademy to learn the basics then try to read and edit some scripts. When reading the scripts google the stuff you can't understand... Just keep trying and eventually you'll be making your own scripts.
The Journey
Journey 2 the Shrekisland
Remember your "Dream Game?" How did that turn out?
I don't have a dream game and I get bored fast when working on long projects (games or not). But an advice for people making games: don't delay it by trying to perfect everything, you'll never know if it's good/bad if you don't release it. I think it's better to release a bad game than never releasing a (what would be) perfect game.
[RMVX ACE] Are there any games without those horrid default sprites?
What do you love/hate seeing in a game?
For rpg maker games I hate:
-Pointless battles: "Close your eyes and mash enter until you're done, repeat for every battle".
-Useless skills: "fire1 fire2 fire3 fire4..." Or effect skills that have all boss monsters invulnerable to them while normal monsters can be easily dispatched using pure damage skills.
For games in general: RNG being a decisive factor.
I can like any game if there aren't many things I dislike.

Why do minigames exist?
author=Feldschlacht IVauthor=Frozen_PhoenixI can't get cool gear/stuff by turning off the game, though.
Most of them are pointless and bad. If I want a break from the main game, I will save/turn off and do something else.
That's another draw of minigames, it gives the player tangible rewards for the game they're playing while giving them the chance to refresh and do something else. The satisfaction of getting freakishly skilled at Triple Triad while simultaneously beefing up my party with the items I was getting from it (and really, a reward for my skill) was great.
Yeah you're right... Minigames when well designed can be fun, but most of what I found on RPGs are giant mazes or some chance based dice/card thing. I just prefer to stick with the main game.

OH! I forgot to mention!
The WORST minigame ever conceived that ruins (if not from the getgo, then eventually) every MMORPG is PVP arenas. Designers sacrifice so much control, flavour, and balancing options just to appease and "balance" this complete sideshow of PVP that it just hamstrings the main game.
I hate it and the existence of it. I wish I could just ignore it but changes made for the sake of PVP inevitably negatively impact my enjoyment of the real game.
I don't view PVP as a minigame in MMORPGs, at least in the ones I've played. But the funny thing about PvP games (not just rpgs) is that "Designers sacrifice so much control, flavour, and balancing options just to appease and "balance" this complete sideshow of PVP" and they end up with some imbalanced OP thing that will be abused until the next patch.
