TBS for RPG Maker 2003
Well it is not hard to see why there has not been a TBS tutorial on this, everyone seems to think it is near impossible. Maybe I should just stick to something simple then. Thanks anyway guys.
TBS for RPG Maker 2003
I have no desire to use the newer RPG Makers, and the work is not the problem. I just need some advise to maybe get a good TBS working. I just need a few tips is all, shoot I would be willing to pay for a good tutorial.
As for the details of the game, seven hundred years earlier, the land of Othlore was ripped apart by an asteroid called GOG, as foretold in the scrolls of the Prophets. The worst was yet to come as the prophecies also fortold of a second asteroid, maGOG, was set to strike. It is a race against time that will take even the Gods of Othlore to stop the second asteroid. The problem, the God called Eden will stop at nothing to see the land completely destroyed, as it was his doing to begin with.
I have seven main characters, and the ability to recruit new soldiers from nine different classes, and three hidden classes.
I can go into greater detail if you like, just been working on this darn TBS for some time now. I am patient with it and don't mind the work, I just need a little bit of advise.
Thanks

TBS for RPG Maker 2003
Can someone please provide a simple tutorial on a Tactical Battle System for RPGM 2003? Just the basics, I can work through the rest because every time I try and attempt to make a TBS for my game it seems something goes wrong. I use the main character as a cursor to select the characters. I use events for each character. But I have no clue how to get them to work the way I want them to.
Just a simple tutorial on the basics is all I ask for a top down version. I don't want a isometric style like Final Fantasy Tactics, just one that has the top down view. Remember, just the basics on what commands to use and how to use them correctly. No need for a ton of detail, just what is needed.

I think you're wrong in many ways.
First, please don't hate on Marvel Brothel before playing it.
I've been following the "popularity surge" of Marvel Brothel closer than anyone. Even though I'm obviously happy and flattered that the game is making such success, I'm still able to see things with a rational lens. For instance, I'm fully aware that 99% of the game's popularity is due to its NAME. Most of the people talking about it haven't played it. They're just "omg, I wanna pimp Rogue". As you can imagine, these are just random internet people, not "Gaming Journalist". Thinking of my games, even though Marvel Brothel is way more popular than Dungeoneer now, there are around 15 reviews for Dungeoneer around the web, and not even 5 for Marvel Brothel. Most people hyping MB don't even know what they're talking about (something like you're doing). So, yes, there may be something wrong with the process, but the problem is not with "Gaming Journalism".
Also, you're writing this article on a community where Alter Aila: Genesis is WAY more popular than the other three games you mentioned.
To be honest, it feels like this article was originally posted someplace else. Who are you calling "gaming journalists" anyway?
I agree dude, I can not see why Marvel Brothel gets a bad rep from guys like this. Also, The Columbine Massacre was of poor taste, but it had some very thought out ideas, save for the killing part. Who cares if people want to play, or at least talk about, a game that is not deserving or over rated. Maybe this guy just had to let his frustrations out, I don't know. It came from left field is all I can say. Most people here enjoy talking about games that this guy gets so worked up over. He needs to take a chill pill and take a big bite out of this crap sandwich called life because it's human nature to love that which is outside the norm.
Memorized Position Question
post=narcodis
Well, first you should know that every map has an ID#, and the hero's position on a map is defined in terms of x,y coordinates.
Simply put, with "Memorize Position", you designate the Map ID, The Hero's X and Hero's Y into 3 separate variables.
"Recall Memorized Position" instantly teleports the hero to a location designated by 3 variables, one for the map ID, one for the X position and one for the Y position.
The two event commands are not exclusive to each other. One writes a location to the three variables, and one uses 3 variables to move the hero to a location.
Similar command is "Change Event Location", which is like "Recall" but moves an NPC/Event instead of the hero to a spot.
Cool, thanks a lot. Clears up some of my problem. I am working on a Tactical Battle System and I knew this would be essential to figuring it out but had little knowledge of the 3 variables. Thanks again.
Memorized Position Question
Hey, can someone direct me to some good tutorials dealing with Memorize Position and Recall Memorize Position. I am confused on exactly their purpose and how they can be properly utilized. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Battle Graphics Questions

Yeah. I always create a brand new file and copy/paste the files I want to edit into it. This assures they are being edited in the highest color depth. After I'm finished, I use Irfanview to reduce the colors and it all works fine from there. :]
How awesome you are!!! You helped me out so much, so simple even a caveman can do it and yet I couldn't! I have been trying forever to figure out my PNG problem and you just blurt it out like it was so simple. Thanks

If you have a photo editing program that supports layers (Photoshop comes to mind, although GraphicsGale supports it too, I believe), you can simply make the bottom layer your battlers and the top layer your weaponry. Line it all up that way and voila!
Just make sure that when you're editing it, you're doing so in the best color depth, then downgrade it afterward with Irfanview or something. Rm2k3 is real picky about that stuff and you could end up with your graphic quality decreased if you don't do the color depth correctly.
EDIT: This topic is more appropriate for the Help & Requests forum, so it will probably be moved once a mod stops in.
Thanks. The color thing is really helpful, I noticed a lot of pics I edit just don't work. For some reason my color is messed up when copying from one PNG to another.

I used Charas.ex to create battlers for 2003 and the weapons all look a bit large for the characters, and also they don't quite line up with them. Any ideas on how to make this work without trial and error. Maybe someone has some program that does a better job. Or maybe I am just screwing things up. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
