The Screenshot Topic Returns

Alterego and Lockez

thank you for your feedback. I will use your advice.

Syria

I tend to avoid participating in such discussions in non-political forums, but just two things:

Don't you think it makes no sense whatsoever what president Al-Assad allegedly did? Attacking his own people with a forbidden weapon had no benefits, and he basically commited suicide since international community will not let this go unpunished.

There were also leaked Britam (PMC) documents suggesting that sarin attack might have been a false flag operation but I don't know how credible this evidence is so yeah, not going to point fingers.

US and other nations should really think twice before doing anything, the strongest opposition in Syria is directly related to terrorist groups.

The Screenshot Topic Returns

This room was quickly done for testing purposes only, but please tell me what you think of the light.

It's extra work for every map and causes further issues (different charsets for different rooms) but I will go for it if you think it's worth the effort..

How should I create my game?

RPG Maker VX is 59,99$
RPG Maker VX Ace is 69,99$

Edit: Also, VX Ace was recently available on Steam sale with a nice discount.

Is the price really that different? VX Ace is what VX should have been in the first place, I hate it when new versions of games/software remove old features. I still cannot get over what mapping in editor is now like. Mapping in RMXP was much, much easier and better.

New Musician

Hello Mokoni! Nice to meet you.

Do you have any music works you could show us?

Rpg maker game, the looks of characters

This is pretty obvious, but be consistent. It would look rather odd if main protagonist was made in the style you posted and all other characters looked different.

If you want some unique looking characters, you need to make all of them from scratch. That's why many people resort to RTP.

Here is a character from the game I am working on

I think I need some Scripts

Now that I re-read your post I think I got you wrong in the first place. You don't want more than 4 party members to be active and participate in a battle simultaneously, what you are looking for is something like a menu option to switch between six characters while only 4 remain active, is that right?

Perhaps this is what you are looking for?

Easy Party Switcher
(...)
- easy to use and easy to switch party members
- supports any party size
- possible to fast-switch between the current and a stored party

Map scrolling question

Wow, this worked amazingly well. Simple and exactly what I needed.

It is possible to turn the scrolling back on with an event $game_map.can_scroll = true when necessary so it's perfect.

Thank you so much Travio!

As a contract worker in the comp sci/programming field, you're going to make a lot less than you're actually work in order to bid in under everyone else. It will also help with health care, insurance, etc.

Source: my own experience before I said fuck it and signed up full time with a start-up.

That said, taking a guaranteed full time position is also like a holy grail to people in the field; so many places are switching to contract work, it's very difficult to find a full time position.

This is a fair point Travio. I suppose it depends on the field you're in. When it comes to work that involves a certain level of creativity (music, drawing, 3D design) it can be simply difficult to work full time and not succumb to burn out. But I understand your opinion, some people just prefer stability of full-time. While I enjoy freedom, there are those worse weeks or months when you need to limit your expenses...

In other words, while I'm not enjoying it, I'm enjoying the fact that I am gainfully employed, and am thus looking forward to graduating next year...even if it signals the beginning of 9-to-5 work till I retire.

And what actually stops you from becoming independent? I could easily imagine a tech-for hire. Contract work, there sure are companies outsourcing this kind of services.

Freelance work is the best thing in the world. It's not for everybody, but boy it's a pleasure to be your own boss.
