FINAL FANTASY: RECORD KEEPER

So, I've been pretty addicted to this for the past couple of months thanks to you guys.

I've made some pretty good progress. I've got a whole bunch of characters, a smattering of mid-range abilities, and as of late some decent equipment. And pretty much no money. I'll be breaking my first level cap in a couple of days (Kain's at level 49 because he's been my most constant member) and officially entering the mid-to-late game stage, I guess.

The events are great for getting a lot of characters from a realm, but I find I get more satisfaction out of earning them from realm dungeons and bonus quests. That's been a very fun part of the game for me, especially gradually assembling a very solid Final Fantasy IV party to carry me over the early- to mid-game threshold and start building me some momentum. I lucked out with Golbez' armour and got Dark Cecil's sword from the beginner's choice thingy, but I started to get really, really bored with just using the same party so lately I've taking a more varied approach.

Got lucky with Save the Queen from the FF9 banner, so while I initially resented her for being another Paladin Cecil with better magic, I'm really liking Beatrix now. And her sword is great for Cecil, too. I've even started earning some of the needlessly-difficult FF6 characters, though there's still no sign of Celes - I have no idea how to earn her outside of waiting for an event, and her unique sword was the first relic I won.

I'm finding the difficulty estimate for dungeons is completely somewhat unreliable. I'm breezing through some 60 difficulties even without synergies, but being completely creamed by some 45 difficulties. (Never mind, I think I mistake the stamina cost for difficulty sometimes.)

Does it bother anyone else that Tyro can do absolutely everything? I find it kind of takes the glory out of earning specialist characters. I don't really mind having an omnidisciplinary main character, but I think it'd be more compelling if it made you earn his proficiencies through quests or something.

(Also, Ramza better be able to use books.)

DELTREE MVP

I'm happy that I managed to squeeze out a placement or two! And now I don't know how to express my pleasure about Team Therese winning without seeming really obnoxious and gloaty about it.

Anyway, thank you to the judges, to Liberty, and to all the participants for the enjoyable event!

lol I like your tree spell Leapfrog. Not sure what the direction you are going for in your game but it'd be cute if the tree had a little angry face on it.

Maybe the Tree-mium model.

Really, I just had a druidy character and wanted to play with the animations, and I thought it would be amusing to have a one-frame tree pop up. How it turned into a vibrating super tree I have no idea.

That's a seriously powerful tree.

It mysteriously went from doing 0 damage to 32000 without any change to the formula , caster or target, so I'm as baffled as you are.

Barrier/Shield Skill (MV)

So, I'm wondering, in my extremely limited knowledge of skills and eventing, whether it's possible to make a protective spell that blocks a certain amount of HP damage to an ally and leaves them to take the excess damage.

For example, take Terrence. Terrence has 100 HP. His teammate Maria, with whom he is quite amicable, targets him with a shield spell that will absorb 25 HP of future damage.

A Dancing Goblin flails at Terrence, doing 38 damage. The shield absorbs 25 of that damage and the remaining 13 is dealt to Terrence, leaving him with 87 HP. Terrence is no longer shielded but he is very pleased to have avoided the brunt of the damage and will likely give Maria an effusive thank you.

I'll stop before I go into a blow by blow account of the entire battle. But is this doable with the standard database + eventing or do I need to reach down deep and find some heretofore nonexistent scripting prowess? Please advise.

Made a spell animation.
I call it "Tree".

MVLYPICS GAMMAK EVENT

So I signed up for this with the best of intentions, but I was hit by a heavy work week, and between that and stress/a little illness I haven't had an opportunity to even start.

I'll see what the weekend brings, but it doesn't look like I'll have a submission for this event, sadly. Sorry to sign up and then not follow through!

The MVLYMPICS!

In that case, allow me to do the honours this time.

The MVLYMPICS!

Clarifying rather than being pedantic: Do you mean midnight on the 16th? As in 12.00am when it shifts from the night of the 15th to the morning of the 16th? Because that would be 7 days.

The MVLYMPICS!

Pareidolon is one of the few to claim to have the time to judge, and thus Pareidolon is Team Therese's nominee.

We've elected the much less experienced Leapfrog (me!) as a backup if there's a problem.

So here's our cheer - I assume posting it here is the way to go.

T-H-E-R-E-S-E,
Building things in R-T-P!

Making items full of flaws,
One of us can even draw!

Hours spent on pixel stuff,
Fifteen minutes' sleep's enough!

It'd be no fun without the stress,
These glitches put us to the test!

Fun is what we're in it for,
But we'll still take the makerscore!

Go Team Therese!
