We've had a group contact us regarding Chinese translation a few weeks ago, so I assume it's already in the works! If you want to translate it despite that, it's fine too.

Hello people, I finished this amazing game yesterday
I think it's the best game I played so far Im still crying ;;

But I've got something in my mind and I'd like to ask you :3 It's a really stupid question I think (See in the spoilers)

When I was to the second part of the world (Glen I think) There were a shepherd with a few sheeps, all of them were normal sheeps but I saw one who was like... rotating... and it made weird noises such as BLEEUAAARRRRRRR, I laughed for like 10 minutes on this and I thought maybe that sheep would be something important in the story, but I was wrong.
So my question is, what the heck was that evil weird rotating sheep, it looked like it was possessed by a demon and s**t. I'm so sad I can't play anymore I'd love to see it again. ;v; Thank you

I see you've met.....The Ram....

I will have to agree as well! While I like aspects of 2003, trying to make custom tilesets was soooo frustrating, mainly cuz 2k3's chipset space utilization isn't that good (more than half of the tilesheet space are for autotiles, a feature I don't really find all that useful save for a few occasions) and you really gotta play tetris with the rest of the tileset to get everything to fit. The 256 color limit is also really restraining, especially when it comes to hand-drawn lighting effects. Not to mention that NPC sprites are also tiny and it was a bit hard to convey height differences.

...believe me, I wanted to switch over to XP so bad, haha! (I mean, unlimited tileset size? 3 layers? come on!) But I consider 2k3 a good learning experience nevertheless.

Oh, I do have a request to not post the reset info publicly! You can do it in private of course, but we don't wanna accidentally spoil someone now, do we?

Glad most of the awards were won by a 2k3 game.
Honestly the overly fancy art style of XP and the character sprites of VX Ace are what keeps me from really wanting to use said programs.
This doesn't make sense. Neither of the things you mentioned are more than options in both engines, if not every engine. HOME/OFF are prime examples of NOT using default assets, aren't they? So how can that be a deterrent?

It's the resolution rather than the assets themselves. In a tile-and-pixel-art based engine, low resolution graphics tend to look nicer.
I wish there's an option in the engine to scale everything 2x but in the meantime a script will have to do.

The download-vote idea sounds nice in theory! But I think it might fall flat cuz it would only apply to people planning to play it during misaos season and locks out the people who's played and enjoyed the game earlier in the year (unless you wanna keep nominations open all year, haha)
Nominations are available all year. You can nominate a game anytime after the voting period for the previous year, which basically means it's open now again (or will be soon) for any game that has had a download added since January 1, and that nomination period stays open until December 31st. We use the term Misao season very loosely, it's more 'the time of year when Kentona/Liberty/Shinan/GRS or someone else on the team reminds us to nominate something we've played'. Not when things we've played become available for nominations. It's only voting that has a short time period, generally around 2-3 weeks.
OOOOOoh ok, so it was always there just not advertised.
Can you nominate a game from the game's page itself? I don't remember seeing a nomination button or anything. I know there's a nomination page off to the side on the user profile/personal access page but.

Another idea can be to require a short blurb on why someone chose a particular game to nominate, and they'll have to be specific enough? For example something like "I think Painted Heart should be nominated for the best graphics category with its really cool watercolor aesthetic." and not "this games great".

That would require either judges who are willing to sit down and play every single game listed.
OR
Have a system that allows a game to only be eligible to win one Misao. If it gets nominated for multiple ones, the category that has the most votes for it is the category it would win the award in, and all other categories would be open to other projects.
I think having a small team of selected officials, a Misao Committee, should decide the winners of each category after the nomination period closes and then picks out the top 3 in each particular category. So basically the nomination process would basically remain the same like before, with users nominating their favorite games, and what not, and then it just comes down to the Misao Committee at the end on deciding on what game should win and what not. This way the people elected to the Misao Committee wouldn’t have to basically play EVERY game that was released that year, just the ones that got nominated the most.

Also, we should change the rules a little about user’s eligibility when it comes to nominating a game to make things a bit more fair and cut down on any shady looking activity. These users have to have had their account open for more than 3 months and at least have more than 50 makerscore to allow eligibility for nominating any games for any Misaos.
Sounds fair to me.

Except it still wouldn't fix problem where the same 3 games might end up on top of the nominations list for every category.

The user eligibility thing makes sense to an extent (to weed out the votebots and sockpuppet accounts) Though I remember reading how people were mostly concerned about the game's popularity outside the site, which is a fair concern.
HOWEVER, I have a feeling some games might've got nominated and voted so much because they got the most exposure from simply being "buzzing" and being on the front page of this site all the time (and the reason why they're buzzing all the time is because they're trapped in a loop of neverending exposure. I'm looking at 1-2 game in particular that hasn't left that position for at least 8 months, if not more. Those games would probably seem like the face of the site for some people at this point.)

So there /is/ the glaring issue of heavy internal bias, and banning outside voters without changing the front page popularity system would all but guarantee the same pattern of one game winning everything forever. It's just a question of which game would get that privilege.

We did think of a 3 game rule where a game could only be nominated for three topics tops. The thing is coming up with a way for it to be automated within the site.

That was most of the issues really. And not coming up with a definite plan. ^.^;

As to the above? Not to me. There are people who have been on the site for a long time and have 0 MS because they just don't bother contributing, yet play a lot of games. Also, it's not fair to lock people out from voting just because they aren't from RMN. We're not an exclusive site, guys. Granted, it is frustrating to see a crowd of people descend and vote but then leave. Maybe some stay, maybe they feel upset to hear that people think their votes shouldn't count.

I mean, if we're really down for excluding, we should only allow votes that are tied to a download from the game in question.

The download-vote idea sounds nice in theory! But I think it might fall flat cuz it would only apply to people planning to play it during misaos season and locks out the people who's played and enjoyed the game earlier in the year (unless you wanna keep nominations open all year, haha)

I wonder if there can be a gamejolt-like system where like, games on the site can have features synced with user accounts?

So another year, another Misao sweeping. Seriously, we really need to start talking about implementing some necessary changes to the voting / nominating system for next year’s Misaos, otherwise I fear that this will be an ongoing, continuing trend for even more years to come that will just continue to result in p**sing more people off.

yea I took a gander at the votes, it would've been a sweep for one game or another across most categories anyway, no matter how you cut it.

I'm guessing this is a longstanding problem and I'm also guessing that restrictions for "no more than one category per game" has been suggested before but never got implemented?
