If you play it in 2013 then yeah, it's nothing special.
Back then, it was top shit. I think I played through it 12 times in a row.

No, internet-using sloth, I am not talking about your joke game.
Your gamepage sure attracted a lot analdamage.

Well your status just seemed a bit more accurate in relation to my game, internet-using puppet.
Chrono Trigger was vastly cliche, but it was the greatest thing in existence at its time and still had great gameplay. It kind of suffered from aging, in my opinion.

Yes it does.
Chrono Trigger has aged better than most other SNES-era RPGs, but like all of them, it doesn't come close to holding up to today's standards.
Sorry everybody but Ultima 4 is still the best. It even can't be attack mashed, you have to push two buttons (attack and up) to win fights and in a certain rhythm because hitting the same button twice would make you lose a turn which I'm pretty sure makes it as good as FF13. Except NAME/JOB/HEALTH/BYE is better writing than the sludge 13 spewed out.
Sorry but I have to disagree. While there are some games nowadays that are decent, compared to the jRPGs of yesteryear they are missing that special charm that makes them unforgettable. Chrono Trigger is still an unforgettable game, whenever you play it; most of today's jRPGs are forgettable.
Agreed with Kenton and Libs, Chrono Trigger, even by today's standards, is still a fine-ass RPG and an absolute masterpiece back in the day. I don't know how many times I still find joy and amazement by playing this wonderful game -- and I'm not sure I ever won't! If I had to take only one SNES game with me on a camping trip, it would be this one.
Just for saying that, we should all grab Nightowl, strap him to a chair in a dark secluded room, and make him play Chrono Trigger from start 'till end until he finally cracks and admit he was just trollin'... You were just 'trollin'', right?

I played it for the first time as an adult and I can't name half the characters. It's one of the most forgettable games I've played in recent years.

You wouldn't recognize a good game even if it hit you in the head... Stop being so jaded, bro. B) You may not remember their names, but a bunch of characters from across time, getting to the bottom of a problem spawning eras, is not something you see everyday. You'd have a better argument attacking the game based on its mechanics alone than anything else: story, characters, music, pacing, even its graphics. Technical aspects aside, Chrono Trigger is still a game with plenty of depth.

What game does Nightowl consider super-awesome?

I enjoy plenty of great games. Ironically enough, most people who say "stop being so jaded" are also the people who say "any game made after 1999 sucks." Sure, I could go on about how boring and derivative the gameplay was, but the story and characters of Chrono Trigger were particularly uninteresting and as the central focus in an RPG is on its story and characters, highlighting how it has failed in that regard is all I should have to say.
