Guess the Game!!!
Release Something! V - Discussion Thread
Maybe a tad too late but whateva. ::)
Yeah, I guess I've been a little lazy on details like that. Now that I think about it, that's bothered me too.
Emo?! But it's got Pink Floyd!
Well, I made it that slow to go along with the music, but I see what'cha mean. Shouldn't let the player suffer for my own laziness...
Think Legion told me this. I'm working on it!
Maybe. I didn't really focus on where it was from whilst searching Galabadia Hotel, just how creepy it sounded. Is that a bad thing. o.O
Oh, aren't we all? Things'll start to make more sense as they go along.
Sort of.
It's the easiest puzzle in any game ever made ever. No matter what number you choose, it's right. Like I said, the further you progress the harder they get (or at least I hope).
I remember making her say something stupid like that, since I always work on FE at 2 AM in the morning. I'll find out what you're talking about and change it.
There's a notice on the wall that says the drawer you're supposed to get at is stuck. Maybe I should make that more apparent...
Ohh, I knew I would fail miserably at that. But now I'm writing down all of the scenes before I code them, so maybe that'll help. I'll look through the old dialogue and do my best to spruce it up a bit.
Think I'll add a run command too. (McGee can I steal yours?)
OOH!!! That second comment there just gave me an idea to spruce up the atmosphere. Thanks for indirectly suggesting that!
Oh, yeah, this is the most demo-y demo you ever did demo.
Gracias for that! Helped give me ideas/inspire me to actually work on it! ;D

- Okay, transition between the screens could be smoother. Like, changing the effects like light effects, weather and whatnot, BEFORE showing the next screen. I mean, since the game is graphically very polished otherwise.

- Aw what an emo intro. Well, at least it carries a viewpoint and wants to tell something!
Emo?! But it's got Pink Floyd!

- That panning screen was extremely slow considering the amount of places it shows = dull. Making it go a bit fastter would be nice.

- The sprites would need to be desaturated to match the other gloomy graphics.

- Do I recognize MONSTER ost here?
Maybe. I didn't really focus on where it was from whilst searching Galabadia Hotel, just how creepy it sounded. Is that a bad thing. o.O

- Anastasia is confused, so am I.

- Does the lock number really matter at all in the room with a piano, or did I really get it on the first? D:

- How does Anastasia know the phone wouldn't work??
I remember making her say something stupid like that, since I always work on FE at 2 AM in the morning. I'll find out what you're talking about and change it.
author=Rei- link=topic=2730.msg51918#msg51918 date=1229974743
- The drawer idea was pretty nice, but since exploring the whole place is pretty linear, from place A to B -> C -> and so forth, I need to explore
every part of this drawer anyway, in order to advance in the mansion and so guessing the right number doesn't serve any purpose at all.
There's a notice on the wall that says the drawer you're supposed to get at is stuck. Maybe I should make that more apparent...

- The slow walking speed is very annoying, and since there is very little of anything interesting in the hotel, this far the game has been extremely dull. There's not much that would make the player curious or care. And since Anastasia seems to be lacking any personality too. Her monologue is only informative and sort of objective, and she states things that are already obvious to the player. Nothing that would give out anything about her personality.
Ohh, I knew I would fail miserably at that. But now I'm writing down all of the scenes before I code them, so maybe that'll help. I'll look through the old dialogue and do my best to spruce it up a bit.

- First thing that made at least me curious, was the dark upstairs.
- Okay, the atmosphere was really cool here upstairs, but all I found... just a key?
- Okay, wow it ended already. Yeah I got the message of it... but felt kind of simple.
OOH!!! That second comment there just gave me an idea to spruce up the atmosphere. Thanks for indirectly suggesting that!

Is this a full release, just a little something? Or is there going to be somekind of game? Like, was this demo or complete like this?
Oh, yeah, this is the most demo-y demo you ever did demo.
Gracias for that! Helped give me ideas/inspire me to actually work on it! ;D

What are you currently reading?
Man, I can never borrow books from the library. Even if it's terrible. It's like I'm a book-kleptomaniac.
Anyway, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. About 180 pages in, and it's getting pretty good. Er, well, it was good before and all, but now it's getting even better. :D

[Demo] Forever Euphoria

http://www.rpgmaker.net/games/846/downloads/839/
Imagine for a second what Silent Hill would be like if it was written by David Lynch with the help of H.P. Lovecraft. Such is Forever Euphoria (formerly titled Anastasia 2: As I Ponder Weak and Weary). At the time being it is nothing more than a phantasmagoria of horrific events, but everything will come together in the end. It's about troubled people who find themselves in trouble.
Demon's Alley
Demon's Alley is a small New England town with a dark past. All but a few have forgotten its original name, and have since deemed it "Demon's Alley." I don't want to spoil anything, since the town's history is crucial to the plot development. It's based on an urban legend, though. You can find some pictures of the "real" Demon's Alley here: http://www.opacity.us/gallery10_new_years.htm
Protagonists
-Anastasia-
A girl with sealed memories. She is a timid girl who wakes up in an old, abandoned hotel, with only the ghosts of its previous inhabitants as company. She appears to have a connection to Demon's Alley, though she does not know what.
-Emily-
A psychic French seventeen-year-old who finds herself in Demon's Alley after being shipped off to America. She is usually very calm and collected, but her anger, mixed with her psychic powers, gets to the point of uncontrollable.
-Howard-
A horror writer who goes to Demon's Alley to refuel his inspiration. Howard has always been a sickly man and suffers from an addiction to morphine. Due to the nature of his writing and his drugs, he loses and regains his sanity at random intervals. Despite all this, he is an asset to the other protagonists with his vast array of occult knowledge.
-Richard-
A priest seeking spiritual revival. Richard is a despondent man who lacks faith in the very religion he practices. It was rumored that those who go to Demon's Alley see their true colors, and are better people as a result.
Antagonists
-Melissa-
A red-haired girl about Anastasia's age. She seems to know her somehow.
-"Mad" Max Forner-
A lunatic and Randolf Hyde's right-hand man. It is rumored that he went mad after his wife gave birth to his son, though the reasons why are still a mystery.
-Randolf Hyde-
The leader of a cult who dwells in Demon's Alley. His intelligence is rivaled only by his insanity.
-The Pitch-Eyed Twins-
Mysterious ghosts that haunt Anastasia's dreams. Who they are and what they have to do with her remain mysterious.
Features
-Old-school adventure gaming, mixed with RPG elements!
-Pictures
-Music from Pink Floyd, Dark Fall, and a random assortment of horror games!
-Rare (like 10-15 the entire game), but highly customized battles!

Things to be aware of:
-This is roughly about 15-20 minutes long, including the kind of unnecessary intro.
-No battles have been implemented yet. In fact, there probably won't be any battles for the first hour or so of the full game.
-Please tell me if the dialogue is silly. There's a fear in the back of my head that it is.
-Yes, the puzzles are supposed to be that ridiculously easy. It's the beginning of the game. They'll get tougher later on.
Well, enjoy! (I hope)

Played Backstage II, which is pretty much how I remembered it, which isn't a bad thing. :P I'm waiting patiently for my demo to be accepted so Legion has got some competition in the horror department.
EDIT: I mean... "I'm waiting patiently for my demo to be accepted so Max McGee has got some competition in the horror department." :-X
(It may take a while to get used to that.)
