Thanks for the review lol, didn't think anyone would ever even dig this up xD This was, what, over a decade ago I made this?

It was indeed made for the RPG RPG Revolution "ONE" game jam, where the whole goal was to use "one of everything." If I remember correctly, every game was either not so great or didn't technically follow the rule of having one thing, though perhaps they did in spirit.

I think the game that won the competition was called "FIGHT" where the only word in the game was "FIGHT" and there was one fight where all you could do is fight. It definitely didn't end up being a very serious competition, very shitposty lol.

You spent longer on this review than I did on the game. Probably. 10/10 would read again.

I've considered updating the game to make things easier but I can't be arsed.

P.S. Weegee doesn't have a walk animation because that's the meme ;)

Hey, thanks for your review, I appreciate it! The characters were actually created by my friend Skilar Babcock and they are completely original assets!

The enemies that have a chance to turn toward you, as well as the enemies that change up their movement patterns, are due to some unfortunate engine limitations. Without knowing how to code, I tried my best to work it out with the event builder and I like to think I got as close as possible!

The goal was certainly to create a short but difficult game with very simple mechanics that hailed back to the NES days. Glad to hear I nailed it :)

I see! Some enemies only give you a few frames to attack due to unfortunate engine limitations. Other enemies just go really fast, which is why the game mentions that attacking may not always be the best course of action ;)

I mean no offense by this, but it is interesting to see that you were not able to finish the game. All of my testers were able to. If this is a continuing trend I may lower the difficulty a tad or add another difficulty option.

Hey, thanks for the review!! I'm curious, is there anything you didn't like about the game other than the difficulty? It was meant to be very difficult but fairly short, much like an old NES game, so that aspect isn't going to change ;) I like the ideas about the stats and the characters becoming unavailable for use though. I might implement that!

Here's a tip: each character has their own HP pool, so if you think you're pretty low on health you can switch at the shop before the next level! Your HP refills upon going to a new world as well. Just make sure to unequip armor and such because those stick with the character too.

woowee I'm late to the party. Just goes to show you how long it's been since I've been on this website.

Anyway, I made this for a contest where you could only use ONE of everything. One character set, one tileset, etc. That's why it is so limited but I figured I would try doing something different than what I thought other people would be doing, which was making an actual game.

I ended up not winning the contest (some guy who made a game that only said FIGHT in it did if I remember correctly), but it was interesting to try creating something with so much limitation.

I was the only play tester because in the end it was just me at my house trying to finish the game before the due date, so I ended up overlooking a lot of things since, you know, I was the one who made it, and also because I was in a rush.

At least it's a good learning experience! There will definitely be beta testers on the next one.

I fixed the lag and the meter. What version of the game were you playing?
And yes it is very cliche, but it is my first actual game, so it was more to see what we could do.
