That's the point, since the first time you step into the library you must avoid the bloody footprints. If you save the game after you stepped on them and that's your only saving you will have to start over.
However it's just less than 5 minutes to head back there.
Yeah, good thing I had another save right before i got into the room, so i avoided restarting! The game was good, made me jump a few times actually, good job! :)

what am i supposed to do?
when it says 'don't follow my steps in the library' i just went around a bit because i had no idea what to do, and since i couldn't leave either i checked your walkthrough, i went back to the starting point and followed the path but whenever i check under the table for the cellar key, i die instead.
