Ok, simple answers for you:
I recommend RMVX. It's not harder to use then 2k3 or XP, but it gives you more options as you progress in your gamemaking skills, so there's no point starting with one engine and moving to another.
2k3 has more resources available, though.
Best way to start would be
1 - Playing a couple of games recommended by the community, just so you know what you're messing with;
2 - Opening the editor and screwing around with the commands and options;
3 - Making a SMALL project. Very small.
This will give you enough experience to think of bigger projects.
As for scripts, they are everywhere. You just have to google for them. You can also request them here.
Thanks! Also, what games would you recommend? preferably a short one, and a long one

Hey guys! first of all...
I'm sure this is asked a lot but.. RM2k3 / RMXP / RMVX which is the best for beginners? is it just personal preference? which has the most resources available?
Secondly whats the best way to start out, just tinkering with everything available? or jumping right into making a game and learning as i go?
aaand lastly, if i wanted to make scripts to change things such as combat, is there a good tutorial on how to write scripts for rpg maker?
