When using the shortcut in the mines, did you press 'A' to jump into the hole? It is elevated off the ground, so you need to use the jump key to get into the passage.
Wow... Really? I suck big time. ._.
I will give that a try. It would be nice to be given an indication that I have to jump into the hole, however. I was never given any, as far as I can recall.
EDIT: Yep, it works, and I'm a dummy for not trying it before.

I wanna report a bug.
The shortcut to the lower levels of the mines works for going in, but not for going OUT! The only way to get out is by checking the skeleton in the lava, then agreeing to be escorted out. If you lose that chance, you are trapped in the mines forever!
Also, I know I'm gonna sound stupid by asking this, but how do you find weft and warp threads beyond the ones you get in the crate on the upper floor of your house? Those are the only ones I've been able to find and with those I can't even go up a level in crafting.
