SARENJI'S PROFILE

Long "about" pages are fairly unappealing, so let's use a list, okay?

  • I've never used RPGMaker.
    I am a programmer.
    I write books.
    I make graphics.
    I web design.

The new list is much more compact. I like it.

I just have a problem with "Best Game Design". It's a little superfluous since you have two subsets of game design: "Level Design" and "Interface Design". Try replacing it with another subset ("Battle System" or "Design"?) or deleting it outright.

Sarenji: If that's not a mock up, you win!

First attempt at the Fire Emblem engine in I've seen from indie gaming.
If a mock up is a screenshot edited outside the game, then it's not. I really like the FE battle system, but I'm not going to be copying it exactly. Definitely inspired, though.

Featuring double mouse cursors, and at the end, a completely random dialogue and an incomplete mission menu! (The Windows mouse cursor doesn't actually appear in-game, and I forgot to splice the last few seconds from the video.)

Screenshots of strategy games really tempt me to post my own... even though it's not even close to completion or even a demo.

Made in Sphere, etc etc. "Move" is for debugging, ignore it. Sometime in the far, far future, our little Jastlin'll be able to walk in forests. Also I have no idea how to use the mountain tile on the top right :(

This game is giving me quite the headache, although it's really cool to see how intelligent (sort of) the enemy AI is. Nearly every single bit of the graphics are temporary.

I'm "new"

Hey, thanks for the welcome :) I survived the flight.

Welcome man, your release something looks great too. Cool avatar as well. Wink
Thanks! Though I think it's really nothing special. (Tetris + graphics + story? Eh.) I certainly got better at programming from that, though! Also, my avatar is from a Gears of War concept art by John Wallin. You can Google him for more of his stuff. His art is absurdly beautiful.

(Can you hear any sounds?)
short: Not really.
way too long: I'm profoundly deaf, so I can't hear any sounds in a certain range. I don't know exactly what it is. Like, I can hear airplanes, but I think that's more because of the vibrations than anything. Also if you scream directly into my ear, I can hear it. But, uh, don't do that :P That said, I used to have hearing aids until December 2007, which would amplify sounds I heard. But as for them helping me understand people, it's a little like cranking up the volume on really quiet, near-unintelligible voice acting.

On December, I underwent an operation for a cochlear implant. The operation drilled a hole into my skull so they could put some electrodes to simulate sounds in my cochlea. The aftereffects of the anesthesia was pretty horrible for me. Anyway, I can shut off the cochlear implant, so I'm still considered deaf. It's not a cure, but it's the closest there is. I have to learn how to process sounds all over again.

I was also worried this implant would set off airport security alarms and I'd be led to a white room filled with untold horrors, but it didn't happen.

I'm "new"

I've been lurking this site for a few months. I decided to join so I could release something.

If you read that post, you might have realized I'm deaf. If you've got any questions about that disability, feel free to ask. Even if you think it's awkward or weird (it's not). I'll be off to LA for a month, but I should be able to reply, hopefully.

Anyway, I'm a Sphere user. My game development presence primarily resides at Spheredev/Spherical, where I remember seeing WIP post. The game I just posted is supposed to be a break from my (actually serious) main project. That main project isn't going to be out for a long time, since I need some well-drawn upper-body portraits of characters. I don't want to unnecessarily hype it up.

So. More about me. I'm a teenager who likes to read, write, program, create digital art, among other things. To be honest, there's not much more to be said other than that I'm one of those "sheltered kids". Of course, I've been trying to change that, but that's a story in itself, so let's not bore each other, shall we?

Release Something! Day [FOR REALZ this time]

I won't be able to participate tomorrow, since I'm going to L.A. for a month starting... yeah, tomorrow. So I'll release "it" today.

This is a silly game I've been working on in Sphere to test my programming skill, and when I found this, I decided, "Well, why not?" and went into a mad rush to finish it. I'm still not done (needs a highscore board and a Continue option, without which the Intense difficulty is nigh impossible), and it's a little sloppy, but it should be fine. I know you said the staff will review every entry, but I'm giving you permission to skip over this :P I'm releasing something for the sake of releasing something.

Also, I know that there's only one music file, but, uh, I don't know how to get more "good sounding music". I happen to be deaf (which shouldn't be an excuse, but there you go).

Screenshots (certain things have changed, but otherwise is more or less the same.)

I don't know. I couldn't think of a name.

Earl, your partner in the game. I wish I was better at pixel art.

Level 1 opponent. He doesn't look happy. Also, I might have forgotten to mention that the game's dialogue is highly cheesy.

Me playing on the old intense mode before I added something that made it easier... then something that made it harder.

Ouch! A three line clear! Three and four line clears deal more damage than they normally would, so get them as much as possible.
