SETHLINDMSTAR'S PROFILE
Avid Artist in all fields, traditional media, cosplaying, and film writing seem to be the most dominant though :p
I live in an artisticly drained part of the United States (cough... Indiana).
I work a lot of hours, so if I don't get back around to posting or answering a question... yeah, that's why ;)
Hope to see some of the great work on here. Good luck!

Wrong section, for one. Should be in the Help section. That said, answers~
1) Ace will use bmp, jpeg and png files just fine. You can add new pictures to the project in two ways. Add straight to the relevant folders - just find the graphics folder for that particular project and put the pictures in the relevant folders. Just realise that certain types of graphics require different sizes for the files. You'd want the picture folder, though, which should be fine, size wise.
The second way is to go into the actual program, choose the Resource Manager (there's a button for it in the top bar), click on the type you want to add and then import it by browsing where you saved the picture. When you do it this way you need to choose a colour that will be transparent.
2) Probably. You'd have to look around for a script that allows it, though.
3) You can always add more onto the project at any time, so basically, yes. You can have the players redownload the full file, or separate the edited files into a folder and tell the players to copy them to the project. Just remember to put them in their different folders to make it easier for the players to know where to put the files.
I'm sorry for the wrong forum section.... Yeah, should have seen the 'help forum'... (my bad)
For the DLC likeness, it's important that it needs to be an add on instead of a new full game (rpg format, so that characters' levels/powers/etc, will need to be saved and to continue.) so I'm guessing that it will only be released for those who have RPG Maker VX ACE then, as there doesn't seem to be another way to add the folder, unless there.... is?
I think I might be able to find the script again (I'll link it here)
Thanks, this answers quiet a bit. I think I might be able to find the script again.
Good (picture wise), I really was worrying about that :P
Thanks a lot, I'll be doing some preliminaries, which forum is for video game WIP's (work in progress)? Or is that frowned upon? Just used to costuming forums i guess :P

Poke'mon Odyssey (tehcnicalities I need advice on)
Poke'mon Odyssey (tehcnicalities I need advice on)
Alright, I purchased RPG Maker VX ACE through Steam's Promo the other day and now I'm sort of starting to put together the ideas that will make up the game. NOW...
Here are some things I have problem/need help.
IMAGERY:
As some of you know (who've played PM) each trainer appears during the beginning of the battle, then they slide out of the screen and launch a poke'ball.
Is there a way to upload a JPEG or BITMAP instead of the pixolish photos that plague RPG's?
BATTLE SCENES:
I've read that there is a way to have a video play as the background during a battle, is there a way of creating a loop video to play over and over (what I'm thinking, is video capture a natural landscape and play over and over, as if the battle were taking place in a field, mountain, town, city, beach).
DLC:
Is it possible to make add on content with VX ACE? I'm thinking of releasing the game in chapters and would very much like to have feedback to help steer me in the dirtection I should take as I make the next chapters.
There may be more questions coming soon, and I hope I'm not posting in the wrong forum section.
Thanks.

[Poll] How Much “Planning” Or “Prepping” Do You Do Before Starting Your Game(s)?
I would say, that it's not 'how much should I plan?' be the question, but how much in the specifics should I plan.
(this is my opinion...)
Story is the first thing to think about, unless you are going for a game that will amaze with graphics and game-play (fighter, racing, war, etc.)
Basically, just what you want to begin, transpire, and finish. Burt wakes up, drinks coffee, realizes the world isn't that appealing today, and goes back to bed (as an example).
Then you will want to plot your chapters (or levels) into sub sections, then with following the general overview formula, do the chapters, then that should suffice for now.
Do some sketches for your characters, a few areas, the main focal points of the game, maybe listen to some music you like, find something that fits the mood, or would sound epic in a video game. Go through the story overviews and fit the music to those points (for an idea for a score.).
Then, after that... meh, do it.
So I say, I personally would plan nearly everything Semi-finished in theory before starting, but only if I was progressive and productive in doing it. You can plan the best game of all time, but it comes to nothing if you don't do it.
And so it also comes to designing (the actual creation process) it doesn't matter if you are a code wizard, if you don't have things set (more or less) you will deviate through your masterpiece, and it will look like a smirk instead of a Mona Lisa.
That's my two cents, I know that things that are planned (realisticly) tend to work out better (carpentry, manufacturing, film production, novels... etc.).

Pokemon: Odyssey [Is it a possibility?]
Not really, I just downloaded the trial to see how I would take to it. I have the PlayStation RPG maker, but it was limited in memory and difficult with text and impossible to customize. I may look into ace when the trial runs out. If it has online capabilities then I definitely will be looking into it pending price. This is a passive hobby (I've got several others...) And am not (sadly) made of money.
I'll be looking into it ;)

author=Link_2112author=SethLindMStarForums aren't the place to discuss your game. On this site you would make a game profile, but you need to have something to show off first.
Added the beginning plot summary. Let me know what you guys and girls think :)

Your question was answered so this thread would normally wither into obscurity. Unless you have further questions about the main topic.
Look at the other pokemon games on the site, some of them are made that PKMN essentials things, too.
Apologies if I crossed a line with this. Unintentional. But I was asking if people thought that the story would make for a good game. (that being a question.)
And I have a few more questions to throw out there that I keep running into, such as...
Does RPG Maker XP allow for multi-player interaction? (for player to player battles and trading) Or for co-op quests? Having the game be multiplayer, or a part set aside for it, would be an enhancement, but that's just an idea.
So, in all, sorry if I 'kept walking the sidewalk, though the sidewalk has ended', but I'm new, sorry :(

I just downloaded pokemon essentials, and it's already a lot to take in. I will be putting up the story, and what I would like to get out of it, sometime soon (10 hour work day - kill ambition :( ).
Thanks for all of the help already guys :)

Pokemon: Odyssey [Is it a possibility?]
Okay, sorry for not putting up a premise before, it will have to wait (sadly) until tomorrow, then I'll put up the plot, the mechanics I would want, the stylization, etc. and what not...
thanks for the link as well, I'll be doing a lot of reading in the next couple of weeks... ;)
-Seth
P.S.
Thanks Sana, I'll look into it ;)
(EDIT. Things got crazy today, it will be sometime later that I get the rest of the info I want up. Sorry :( )

Pokemon: Odyssey [Is it a possibility?]
Alright, that clears up a lot, thank you :)
Now, on to a bigger question. Who would be interested in helping me make one? I know nothing about coding (though, I see that there is a lot of help here that I definitely will be looking into ;) ).
I'm an artist, and concept is my candy so to speak, I am also a writer (among many other things...) So, all I would need for it to happen would be programmers to help me make the game by
a- Doing it themselves (or)
b- Helping a computer retard (no offense, that's just my level) to understand coding.
I also have a few other question...
Does anyone know which program would be best for making a pokemon like game?
