What do you like in a turn based battle system?

As I'll be getting a little bit more free time and working closely with Vanit in the coming months, I'm curious to get some input from you my "audience".

What are qualities that you guys like in a turn based battle system?
I'm conflicted as to whether I should try to come up with a system that's completely original, or just do a spin on the conventional ATB battle system.

For those who are interested in looking at what my second draft of my game's battle system in-particular looks like, can check it out here: https://www.box.com/s/yyknjd8s6ypvfvk0bbpb

Otherwise just let me know what qualities of turn based battle you enjoy.
Thanks!

Dormant Sky Battle System

Hey guys, Sion here. Gosh I almost feel foreign around here.
For those that don't know me, I've been working on a project called Dormant Sky.
Though things are moving a little slow now due to college, I do find time to put into it. A few months ago I finally wrote up a Battle System concept for the game that Vanit soon plans to implement. I just want to know what you guys think of what I have.

It is very much inspired by the likes of Chrono Cross.

Thanks in advance. I look forward to your comments.

Hey Guys

How's everything been in the Rpgmaker community as of late? Sion here, and It's been a good while since I've come through. I'm still a little ticked I can't really work on anything at the moment. My Computer shutdown around mid last year. And I've been stuck ever since. I'm using my fathers laptop for the time being.

I almost forgot how much I've still to get done with my project. Looking at my own screenshots have scared the hell out of me. Here's hoping I can resume soon.

Sonic Party II

I posted this over at Gamingw.
Figured I might as well
bring the discussion here too.

Sonic Party

It's not often I rant about other people's projects.
But have any of you guys played this rpgmaker title?
It's a "Mario Party" spin on the sonic universe.
I've not checked out everything but there's classic
Chao management and everything packed in here.

The mini-games are fun and interactive. The only set
back is the language being German, but seeing the
type of game it is there's really little need to
read anything besides the mini-game descriptions.
Which are simple enough to catch on to.
Scenes from the plot I've seen so far are
voice acted in English, though subbed in
German.

I believe there's some sort of free roam mode
you can enter to gain coins and unlock new
stages and minigames.

The premise is the same as Mario's franchise.
You play against friends or the computer
to aquire "Rings" in order to purchase
"Emeralds" The player who acquires
the most Emeralds or Rings reigns victorious.

So yeah, you can find both games here.
I've not tried the first game yet,
but if nothing else, this is a prime
example of pushing rpgmaker
to it's limits. To make unique,
and in the end, fun games.

Consistency of my Game

I've gone through shitloads of chipsets since I've began my project. I currently have settled with my Refmap/Rudra mixture. Although here and there I throw in a random chipset that I don't think looks TOO bad. What do you think of my consistency, and if it all works well enough to have a high visually pleasing project.

Let's start with the Enviornment of
and surrounding the kingdom of Sirdeka.

The Forest

Sirdeka Forest consists of two halves. The first treasure latent and
filled with exploration and pending small battles. The other Half, the
path leading out into the Arcian Region of Alterra. Filled with monsters
and the common path-halter's of a hero's journey. I use the Rudra Forest
chipset.

The City

The Kingdom of Sirdeka is a bustling city of old age. The Kingdom
derives it's name from being built in a circular structure to help
in it's defense. The kingdom is renown for it's military prowess.
And focuses mostly on that aspect. I also used a Rudra Chipset
to map this.

Sirdeka Interiors

A basis which has caused mixed views in several people's opinions.
The following are two shops I've currently mapped for Sirdeka. Originally,
using Refmap chips for the interiors. I felt as if they weren't realistic
enough for the indoor feel I wanted Sirdeka to display. And though not
specifically meant for a Theo chip. I don't think they stand out too
bad. Lemme know what you think I should do with this. I've halted
further development of the interiors until this has been settled.

The Castle

Created before my use of Rudra Chips, stands Sirdeka Castle. The symbol
of Sirdeka's military might. However nicely crafted, I wonder if the
castle molds well enough with the Rudra counterpart of the town?

Your views are very much appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Preference in Rpgmaker Games

As I've been working on my project. I've often wondered to myself what players usaully look for in games period. But seeing as most Rpgmaker projects are overlooked. I'm
curious as to what hooks you into an rpgmaker project, and keeps you hooked.

Show: Picture

I've always wondered, in Rpg2k3 is there a way to have a picture display itself on the map without scrolling? I believe there is an option to nullify the scrolling but it doesn't seem to work. I'm trying to use this method for a specific effect. Suggestions?

Iron Man

IRON MAN

The film is about Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), a billionaire industrialist and master engineer who is captured by terrorists in Afghanistan. Ordered to build a missile for them, Stark uses his resources instead to build a powered exoskeleton to make his escape. Returning to the United States, Stark improves his armor and becomes the technologically advanced superhero Iron Man. Gwyneth Paltrow plays his personal assistant Pepper Potts, Terrence Howard plays jet pilot James Rhodes, and Jeff Bridges plays Obadiah Stane.

I just saw this film Saturday. And was awed by the special effects. I like the direction it's going in and await the future of the series. What do you guys think about it, and/or superhero films in general?
