[Poll] Humorous or serious - Which do you prefer?

I prefer humorous games that have serious elements thrown in, generally when they lurk under the humor. Now, when I say "humorous with a bit of seriousness", I'm referring to games such as Earthbound, which is actually my favorite RPG. A full blown parody game just doesn't work out most of the time, because there's nothing really holding it together. You need to at least have something that's holding the game together, something to provide motivation and reason. And in some cases, the seriousness in a game can really come out and deliver a bit of a kick to the player. Overall, I'd say that a half and half balance is what I look for in a game.

[Poll] Super Nintendo Vs. Sega Genesis

I've always preferred the Sega Genesis so much more than the SNES. Now, I have to concede that the Sega Genesis was blown out of the water by the SNES in terms of specs, back when that actually meant something. The graphical capabilities of the SNES far exceeded the Genesis, although clever Genesis developers were able to replicate every pretty effect the SNES could do (see games such as The Adventures of Batman and Robin, Vectorman, and Vitura Racing). The sound chip on the SNES was also considerably better, but the Genesis has such a charm to it that I can't help but classify Genesis music as my favorite form of chiptune (Phantasy Star IV, Eliminate Down, Streets of Rage, and a bunch of other things). That just leaves the famous "blast processing", which in reality was just a marketing term for the Genesis's processor that was twice as fast as the SNES. While this often didn't mean much, the Genesis was in fact capable of certain things the SNES was not.
Couple onto it all the wonderful and amazing games on the console, and it stands as my personal choice for the 16-bit era (even though the console is dry on the RPG front, titles such as the Phantasy Star series remedy that). I can see why people would like the SNES, and they're both amazing consoles, but the Genesis does just a little more for me.

Opinion on Fangames

I tend to be turned off by fangames, but they can be astounding if they're well done. The real issue with fangames is keeping loyal to the IP it was based off of, having it feel familiar yet at the same time is new. A different story, while trying not to retcon the original. It can require a very precise balance between the original and the new ideas of the developer. As long as you have some experience under your belt and know your source material very well, there really isn't any reason not to make a fangame if that's what you so please.

Hey, welcome. See you around.

Also, "The community seems quite interesting from what I've seen, and I hope my time here." Is that an incomplete sentence? :L

No... well yes. That's actually a failure to reread my poet (or I edited it) and ending up missing the word "enjoy".

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

I just decided to slap together a road-thing today.

What kind of game are you developing? And welcome!

I'm just developing a RPG in VX Ace. It's my first real project, but I've been making what amount to practice games in the engine for quite awhile.

Hooray, an introduction thread! Time to go and make a fool of myself while trying to leave a positive impression (boy, great start already).
So, yes. I am Sparertoaster, I've always sorta lurked communities like RMN, with little more than the thought of, "Oh hey, a community" and not much else. However, since I've gotten into this whole game development thing again, I've been finding myself ending up on this website multiple times. So I finally decided I'd just go ahead and join. So, here I am. The community seems quite interesting from what I've seen, and I hope my time here.
