Happy to help. This is a totally new engine so I wanted to check it out.
I do like it. It plays like N+ which is awesome, with an open world.
If I was recording voice there would have been a lot of cursing heh Too many deaths felt like a slap in the face. Sometimes I would expect an enemy to be in the same place, but it's random, so I run right into them. Some are close to a checkpoints, so it was like that episode of Itchy and Stratchy where he makes a cloning machine that feeds into a killing machine haha There was one spot, I'm not sure if it's on the vid, but I almost quit because it felt like close to 10 minutes doing the same checkpoint and dying in every conceivable way u.u
I saw your other game and laughed when you said you wanted to ramp up the difficulty :D It should be easier, or at least more balanced(which is basically making it less hard). There were some good setups but try to avoid too many narrow zones of success. Especially several of them between you and the next checkpoint, unless you want to make a "HARDCORE" game after making some easy ones. Ease people into the engine. I'd like to play a version where there is no speed upgrade. Keep it slow and design the levels to fit that speed. This kind of game is fun when you can survive for a long time and enjoy the freedom of movement. And wall jumping, let's do that!!
Most of this game felt like mini checkpoints of challenges. It sucked when I had to back track through tough/spiky parts. Ugh.
Try some kind of visual indication of where the pop-out spikes are, or where they might be. It can still be a trick with no spikes. Unless you can make them pop out sooner. Most times by the time you see them, it's too late to make a new decision of movement.

Man, this actually looks really good! I love this style!
thanks! i fell in love with style the moment i saw it. it's so easy to make graphics and it's really fun. a good stepping stone for developing more detailed spriting skills, too.
did you love it enough to subscribe? :P
Pixel Movement test
the events have multiple pages and i use different colors to tell which page is running. there are no other songs for the game yet, that's some random royalty free drumbeat. better than silence for the vid.
this is a test area created from 2 steps in a long tutorial for pixel movement. i didn't like only having 3 frames for the character walking so I wanted to do this. i still need to add frames but his pimp walking makes me laugh every time i see it :D
