I love the graphical style you've got going on here. Looks very nice!

The "multipart" boss!

I like the odd boss battle where you can target the bosses left arm, right arm, and torso, and each part has different strengths, abilities, weaknesses, immunities etc...

Oh man! I keep meaning to add bosses like this to Blackmoon Prophecy, but it has slipped my mind so many times. Thanks for reminding me!

I definitely know what the next boss I make will be now, ha.

Cool, I'll give it a gander.

How about Cagnazzo in FF4? He was always one of my favourite bosses from the Final Fantasy series. I like bosses that alternate between a standard form and a strong form. When they enter the strong form, you know it's time to calm down with the attacks and get ready to heal, even if that means pulling your offensive characters off of attacking and making them use potions.

There's one boss I have that's similar to that, except instead of having an alternate form he just becomes desperate to win once he's weakened to about 25% HP, when his only attack becomes a very devastating summon that inflicts about 500-600 damage on all characters (at a time when I expect most people would have no more than about 1000 or 1100 HP unless over leveled). Once he starts throwing that summon at the party, it pretty much becomes a game of "take this guy down as fast as possible before the party is obliterated" because, honestly, unless maximum effort is put into damaging him, he'll eventually kill off the party unless the rare healing items (elixers and such) are used.

I like types 1 and 3, not so much for types 2 or 4. Type 5 sounds pretty cool, reminds me of the giant dinosaurs in FFXII that would eat other fiends in the desert. Type 6 is an alright choice, though usually the extra power also means extra weaknesses, so that's something to consider.

Are there any boss types not listed that you enjoy? I'm mostly looking for suggestions so that I can tweak a bunch of my boss fights and make them more varied.

Gardens of fragrant "herbs" grow throughout the temple. By "using" the herbs, you can enter a trippy technicolor dreamscape-like version of the area, which has different monsters and must be used to bypass some puzzles. The overall theme of the area will be to see how many different ways you can imply exactly what these herbs are without explicitly mentioning anything that would take your game above a PG rating.

This isn't too bad of an idea. I might be able to do something with it.

The party is not allowed to save any of the crystals. If they do, there's no game.

I don't know, there's a running cliche in the Final Fantasy series where the party is always able to snag at least one crystal. It breaks up the monotony of always having the bad guy win over and over again.

Can you give us a sort of one/two sentence "sneak peek" at this new dungeon; like if it's man-made (Ronka Ruins in FFV) or carved out of the earth?

It's a temple that holds one of the five crystals that the party seeks to save throughout their adventure. The temple symbolizes life, so it has lots of water and plant growth inside.

Trying to think of a way to make "plant life" introduce some kind of mechanic in the dungeon, but I'm drawing blanks so far.

Well, yes and no. The party goes for a little ride in it to reach a dungeon (which I am now working on) and THEN it will be rideable.

The Screenshot Topic Returns

Oh man, Sim RPG Maker 95! I haven't seen that in years.

Agreed that the second screen looks much better, though the weapons look too pixelated.

The second from the right has very basic hair. Why not add a few lines or something to spruce it up a bit?

The rest all look awesome though. Very nice.
