Have you done any of the character's trial modes? I think they teach you how to do it in each one.
Anyhow, just hold a focus attack (hold the mid-punch and mid-kick buttons) and dash either forward or backwards instead of releasing the attack to cancel it.

If you don't know how to cancel a focus attack, you're worse than you say you are! (No offense)
Canceling moves can be quite difficult and is something I never do, but canceling a FA is easy shit.

Of course I know you can block moves, but just like you can't block during a jump, you can't block during a dash...
But maybe I'm just not quick enough? After reading your post, I can see there are many options. I'll just have to try harder...

Wouldn't that have the same outcome? Cancelled FA into dash right into a shoryuken?
