Your opinions on the DmC reboot?
What do you guys think of the DmC reboot?
For me Dante used to be a cheek and tongue bad ass who had a silent sensitiveness about his past which you never saw, until someone pissed him off, and even then he was strong in the face of this adversity. But now I feel he's turned into an emo/punk/Twilight teen idol. Im sorry to stay this. Even Virgil looks like a blonde whipped down Clark Kent. DmC did a great job with level design and use of color but overall the story was to atypical of American teen novels. Even Dumundus looks like Lex Luther and the women, sigh.
They use to be strong independent with kickass abilities and now, now, blah, just Twilight like. I can understand Kat's strengths lies in her useful knowledge of Wiccan and the occult, that understandable, but the way she gets passed around: shot, bitch slapped by Dumundus, and told to shut up by Virgil. The game just totally alienates me as a female player. This game just seems to scream that women are either sluts or weak. Sad

XXX Strictly Ladies XXX
(sorry if the title was misleading guys :P)
Ladies how do you view the roles of females on TV and in games?
What is your perspective on how the women are being portrayed in the media, music, and news? As a female artist, designer, gamer, etc... how do you present yourself and make your mark to/on the world?
Have there been times when you were recognized more for your appearance rather than skills? How do you did with that?
I most commonly see women fall into the same old categories.
In America women on television, internet, and games are mostly dress to be provocative, kinky looking, or complete stereotypes like the girl next door or the everyday mom. I hardly see any shows where a woman is the main character but works with wits instead of looks. Im wondering if this is just an American thing or is common practice on tv internationally.
The gaming world it hardly differ, like Princess Peach in earlier Mario games. A blonde who always needed rescuing. Or Yuna from FFX, she had this subservient vibe about her which at first seemed natural because she growing into her role as a summoner in the game, but then FFX-2 comes and BOOM!!! Total fan service. Dress spheres and more skin to be seen. And dont get me started about DOA girls, I mean at first I really appreciated the game's battle system, the fighting styles, and the fuild flow of the control schemes, aside from the breast physics the game was great. Then, years later DOA Xtreme Beach Volley Ball. I was like are kidding me?
Some of the few female characters in a game I think that break that mold is Chell and GLaDos form Portal and Rin and Ayame from Tenchu Fatal Shadows.
I would like to see a good game with a normal or even comely female protagonist. I want to see what game designers can do with a female that is repellent in her looks rather than eye candy.
