Close*takes a deep breath*
After a while of not uploading videos, I decided to try it again. Less than a few minutes after posting a newer video, yet another group of corporate pirates made a bullshit content ID claim on something they do not legally own.
And since I don't have the money to take those motherfuckers to court, I had to mute the song those liars claimed they own.
I have yet to run into anything like this on Dailymotion, and this gives me the impression that YouTube is not a viable place to upload videos to in the slightest.
You have either pirates making false content ID claims on your videos, or companies trying to censor you in any way they can. Not only that, but Google loves playing favorites and will fuck you over whenever they feel like it.
Even though my videos will get fewer views there, I'm taking my business to Dailymotion almost entirely. I'll only remain on YouTube to help promote indie games, but that's it. Dailymotion seems to let you have more freedom with content creation, and it seems you're less likely to have asshats ruining things for you.
I don't discourage the use of YouTube, but I really question if it's worth it now.

Honestly, youtube is one of those sites that almost seems to have gotten too big for its own good.
Don't get me wrong, I love youtube, but it's a great example of a monopoly. Look at the Let's Play community. It's absolutely saturated. A number of people are at the top and will always, always, always get more attention than you or your videos ever will. They're popular, wealthy, and completely dominate the site to the point where it is incredibly rare for someone else to get recognition. For example, about one a week I will run a search for Liberty's Let's Plays, as she's one of the only Let's Players that I'll actually watch. It is incredibly difficult to actually pull up a search, even for a particular game, to try and find her videos. I actually have to search 7thlittleleopard,and then run a search for a specific video.
Let us know how Dailymotion works out. I think their media player is awful, but hey, you may get a lot more luck over there than on youtube.

That isn't my problem, the problem is the closet-pirates that are monetizing other people's videos instead of trying to make their own content.

Yeah, I solved the Liberty problem by subbing to her and now I can just get her vids in my daily feed.
You could also just go to my profile here, hit my youtube link (goes to my channel) and check out Videos (it's in order of date) if subscriptions aren't working for you (they've been fucking up for some people).
Zak, there's two types of claim. There's content matching and strikes.
Strikes will limit your channel and three of those = deletion (however you can talk to youtube about them if they're illegitimate strikes.) These usually come from videos that the owners do not want shared - anime tends to fall under this a lot, even anime that is legitimately used. If you're using it legit (not whole blocks of scenes, but clips of 30 seconds or less, for the sake of reviews/comedy/etc) then talk to youtube about it. Some companies push hard for removal of their content, though, and you will likely be forced to remove the video if push comes to shove.
For matched copyright content, they rely on an algorithm to check for recognisable songs/images. It's a bit of a bother but you can chase down the people in question who are on the other end of the claim and ask them to remove it - they're usually not the ones who are claiming, it's automatic. Often, if it's for something that they don't own and/or is free to use, just asking them about it will see a claim removed.
Some companies won't remove the copyright claims, but won't force you to remove the video - instead they'll ask for either a share of the money that comes from that video OR claim any money IF the video is monetised. Just unmonetise those videos.
There used to be a lot more false claims, but youtube recently made a change when it came to the money side of things. It used to be that the money would default to the person claiming the content during the time that that content was claimed. With the 30 wait period (they have 30 days to refute an argument against a claim) they tended to suck up most of the money that videos made (most views happen when the video first goes out, usually) meaning that when their claim was proven false, they let go of the claim but kept the money that the video made in that time. Now there's a system where the money is put aside (sort of on hold) until the claim is sorted out completely, and only the winning side gets the cash - and they have to prove that they have the rights to demand that money, making it a lot better for youtubers who got harassed by fake claims.
There are still people who do fake claims, of course, but most of the time it's the auto-copyright feature at work. If you refute the copyright claim by pointing out why your video doesn't break copyright of the other person (transformative work is what most LPs fall under, but only if your voice is over the top of the sounds) then you should be fine. Or just chase down the copyright holder and ask them to ask youtube to release the video.
Unless it's fucking Sony records or music assholes like that. They won't release their hold on anything. Ever.
