Oh that! We made it using Show Picture inside a Loop in Parallel Process.
Basically in the loop you:
Show Picture
Wait a few frames
Show Picture
Wait a few frames
Show Picture
Wait a few frames
Since it's in a loop, it just repeats the whole thing. I don't know if there's a better way of doing it, but that's what we did. It's in Common Events > Darkness A if you're looking at our game project.
We used 3 files for this. The images are in the Graphics > Pictures folder if you want to use those 3 images.

I loved playing this game so much and I'm trying to get some people I know to play it too. I swear I'll get the secret character someday (hoping soon)! Customization is really fun and easy too.
