I think in this day and age, people should re-evaluate what it means to be a success and a failure. I have my own slightly controversial views on this type of thing I'd rather not share, but at the very least if you're not causing active harm to other people I'd say you're far from a failure.

Cultures have always had weird and often unhelpful rules on what does and does not qualify one as a failure.
Multiple cultures have had things like "a relative did a no-no" obligate one to commit murder or suicide because of it reflecting on oneself. At least now we just limit it to some people looking down on others scornfully. :V
