[RM2K3] Video Background and Moving Backgrounds
author=Darken
Pretty sure Yume Nikki is just using a basic Parralax Background (one you set in map properties) and setting the scroll speed. If you're using commercial rm2k3 you can do whatever you want really, in Display Setting of the Show Picture command you can set it to "0: Above Parralax Background" which will display the picture under everything. It's kind of hard to summarize a step after that since it depends on what you're doing from there.
O! That makes sense for the picture, i forgot scrolling existed, but then what about videos? :0 is it the same process?
[RM2K3] Video Background and Moving Backgrounds
I've seen similar topics, but none that want exactly what i want.
Is there a way to import a video/gif as a background for a map?
Or a still image to move as a background?(Nikki example of what I mean: https://youtu.be/7PSu-WxJR0o?t=42 )
In the 2k3 version I know you can play short movies or move images, but is there a way to make them the background like that? where the character can walk on the video and such?
Sorry if im not making sense, any help will be appreciated!

Race and Gender in Games
author=Darken
The whole problem with this is that you're shifting the discussion to be about historically accurate games when the discussion is about race in general in games. This counter-discourse really relies on far reaching hypotheticals to make a point about something that doesn't really ever happen (game about china featuring native americans as you posed). It's very easy to see the mindset behind this type of post because it's just not really made in good faith.
The principle idea isn't "Put less white people in your games" it's more "Why not put minorities in your games?" and the counter answers are often really insubstantial or really nitpicky exception cases. That's where the discourse really seems to be, is just devil's advocate points than consideration or at least acknowledgement. It's ignoring the greater context of things.
I understand but I'm not responding to the thread itself but a few comments some people made using LOTR or the older RPG maker games as examples of how they had only white people and that they were shocked with the little amount of minorities in the movie/game. I was pointing out that because they're based on European lore, it wouldn't make sense to have a lot of minorities. Sorry it didnt make sense with context given.
Race and Gender in Games
I'm just going to put my two cents in here about race since a lot of people have been bringing examples that make no sense:
Representation does matter, but sometimes it just doesn't make sense. If you're making a story about 1400s Europe why would half the cast be non-white? If you're even writing about 1500s China, why would half the cast be non-chinese? The older RPG maker was made for old European-inspired games, a high abundance of non-white people doesn't make sense for the games, same thing for Street Fighter for example, to which my knowledge, the majority are asian.
I'm not saying there shouldn't be non-whites but it should correlate to your world's lore and what it's based off of. I'm pretty sure it'd would piss a whole lot of people off if you took a game taking place in China and replaced everyone with Native Americans. Not because people hate Native Americans, but because it doesn't make sense in the context. 50-50 doesn't even make sense. BUT if for example, you're making a game in modern-USA, the racial diversification should be much more noticeable because it makes sense in the story.
About gender and sexuality, I have no thoughts. I never really had issues with either, but as long as you don't write your characters as their 1 "trait" of being black, gay, or trans, then you should be fine.
Thanks for coming to my ted-talk.

Missing Generic RPGS?
I'll try all those RPGs out guys,,,
Nah i think these generic games are really disappearing. No matter how generic someone makes it they always add some kind of originality to it. It's really weird to say I miss originality but I really do.
I get what you're trying to say but it's more like I really like that old predictable charm older JRPGs and RPGs had. I know it's a risk most companies or people will not take but it's kind of disheartening? Ill try out the SNES versions.

I don't think you can legally claim that you miss those types of games on this site, of all places

In fairness, making a trope-y and by-the-numbers JRPG in this day and age is kind of a risk because you could just end up with something uninteresting and predictable. I'd even go so far as to say that, at this point, many JRPG fans have played their fair share of those games and if your audience knows exactly what to expect in your game you could easily lose their interest if there's no big spin on it to keep them hooked.
That said, I find that a lot indie devs are more apt to emulate the SNES FF4-6 style of RPG, rather than the more markedly NES-sounding games that I think you're describing. They're definitely an uncharted territory.

Missing Generic RPGS?
I've lately been in a state where I've been really missing those old rpg games where you just kill slimes, kill the dragon king, and save princesses as a hero? Y'know, the really generic ones? A lot of current fantasy rpgs try too hard to be original and I'm sort of missing those old tropey games :/
Anyone feel the same? Or are there any games that are still very trope-y you can recommend?

Chipset handeling by RPG Maker 2003
I have a quick question, how do you make sure it registers the first tile as transparent? When i enter a tile set it usually makes the whole map the background color of the tileset picture.
I might be pretty dumb asking this but i've been trying to figure it out for a few hours now.
EDIT: nevermind... i don't know what i did but it works now...
