RANDOM BATTLES? NO PROBLEM! RM2K3
author=GreatRedSpirit link=topic=977.msg13735#msg13735 date=1209612087
Hmm, sounds like something in a newer version of RM2k3. I don't have a Random choice at all.
Nice to see it is possible without the method I described above though.
I'm using 1.08... :-\
RANDOM BATTLES? NO PROBLEM! RM2K3
I've found a way to create random battles.
First off you're going to need to open the "M. Group" tab. Create a new monster group called "Random Monsters".
Now, here's the secret, let's say you wanted to use Goblins as your monster group. Find the goblin and click the add 8 times. You should now have 8 goblins lined up in your battle screen. Finally, highlight your "Random Monster" group and press "ctrl+r", or right click your "Random Monster" group and click the Random button.
Once you do this, every battle will randomly generate up to 8 monsters on screen.
Try it out. It's a lot better than making 1 goblin group, 2 goblins group, etc and then adding them all in the created area.

Helpful tool for RM2k3
This is a helpful guide for the annoying TEXT BOX problem. If most of you are like me, then you know how frustrating it is to write up some dialogue, go back and read it and it cuts off. FRUSTRATING!
Here's something that you can use when you plan on creating any text in your events.
Using Notepad, copy and paste these into your Notepad and name it "RPG MAKER TEXT BOX". This is going to be another file you open up when you open up RPG MAKER.
A few things to take into consideration, for those who need things in layman's terms like myself.
1. I've made two layouts, one with a face graphic and one without.
2. The numbers in parenthesis( ) mean that's how many numbers fit in the Message Box using a graphic or not.
3. The numbers 1234... is your reference measurements, do not proceed past the last number as the text will be cut off.
4. There's a "Start Below Here:", as it says.
5. The large empty space is where your text will go.
6. There's an "End Here (Create New Message Box)", means once you've reached this point, create a new Message Box.
7. Finally there is another reference measurement so it makes for easier line up.
REMEMBER: If you use this format, do not use the ENTER button or you will throw off the layout. Press the DOWN ARROW when you come to the end of the measurement number.

DISCLAIMER: With as many people out there who are trying to make things easier for you and I, this idea has probably been done before (for better or worse). I don't want anyone to say that I've stolen the idea, just tell yourself, "Great minds think alike."

Request: Questions about RM2k3
Well, these are the things that are driving me crazy and unable to really move forward with my game. Here are some questions that I have and would like answered by anyone willing to give a me some advice.
1.
Plan: I'm planning on allowing my characters to change classes after they've reached certain level requirements. You start off with a Base class, you can then upgrade to a Basic class and finally an Advanced class. Here's the layout:
CLASS
Base: Fighter (two branches) >> Basic: Knight >> Advanced: Paladin
>> Basic: Swordsman >> Advanced: Sword Master
I have 6 base classes with the same layout for each.
Question:
Is it better to use multiple switches instead of variables?
2.
Plan: I have a Barbarian class that has a Rage Skill, I was wondering how long it will last, I've tried to test it and it seems like one round.
Question: How long do skill effects last and can you change the timer?
3.
Plan: I'm trying to make an item/equipment that raises HP or MP, I know that you can do it for the other attributes but I'm having trouble.
Question: Is there a way to make this possible?
4.
Question: Is there a program that will allow me to see where the text bo cuts off?
5.
Question: How does autocomplete work?
6.
Question: How come mass copy doesn't work but mass clear does?
If anyone can share some insight I'd really appreciate it!

WANT: Making battle character sets for dummies.
No, it is a NEED, if I do not have it, surely will I perish! /sarcasm
I'll change the title if I can. :-)
Thanks for the advice.
Is anyone out there bored enough to turn this character and all his moves into a battle character for me? It doesn't have to be great, but at least better than half ass'd. I'll be using the battle animation for now until another option comes to mind.

I was thinking, would it be possible to make this into a battle animation instead and have a dummy battle character? I want to be able to make him have different looking attacks.

I've looked everywhere for a decent tutorial, but I'm sure I've missed a few sites(especially the ones that aren't translated in English), for a way to make battle character sets.
Now, I've tried to use the program GIMP and the templates that folks are nice enough to put up, but I can't get the size to match up. When I do manage to fit them into the boxes, they look so squished it doesn't look right when I import them.
Here is the sprite that I'd like to use as battle characters:

If anyone could point me in the direction of a video tutorial, a picture tutorial or even a well written tutorial I'd really, really appreciate it.
By the way, I'm use RM2k3 if that makes a difference.

RANDOM BATTLES? NO PROBLEM! RM2K3
RANDOM BATTLES? NO PROBLEM! RM2K3
Hello all, I'm new to the site as well as Rpg Maker. I'm currently running 2k3 and I'm getting annoyed that the only way to get random battles is to create monster groups. Is there any other way that one could run it differently. For example, if I'm in a desert area, I am able to set monster A, monster B and monster C to randomly show up in battle. Instead of making predetermined "random" battles using monster groups.
I'm really tired and I hope this makes sense.
