I hate closed-minded gamers and game reviewers... (Metroid: Other M)

re: samus as a blond,
People don't get it. People are idiots. A company creates a canon, and they create an ethos. If you happen to like it - so be it - but you'll still know absolutely nothing of their intentions. Samus could have been female for years, the early gaming consoles probably didn't have enough pixel quality to give her tits. Slight sarcasm aside, you can't know what a company is thinking. Especially if you are looking at the Japanese market. The Japanese gaming market is a kind of a recluse. They make changes without a majority of their audience knowing about it, and these changes could disenchant followers. You don't define their games, they do, and they have free reign to change it.
Samus has always been a female. The very first one if you beat it in under 2 hours showed her without a suit as being a female. It's up there with the Konami code as far as video game legends yo. It was a surprise back then, and it actually worked because there wasn't an Internet to spoil everything like there is now.
Metroid started off pretty clearly inspired by the Aliens franchise. The parallels are pretty big. The character name "Ridley" most likely being a nod to Ridley Scott who directed the first Alien film. The goal in Metroid II is basically the same as Aliens - wipe out all the Metroids/Aliens on SR388/LV-426 and the Metroids had various stages of growth. Samus almost certainly was based upon the character Ripley just by way of being a badass chick in a space exploration game.
To change Samus into a sort of Space-Aeris rather than a self-reliant badass is a pretty dumb move.

I really wish I could finish Super Metroid, but I think I'm the only person who has broken a controller over how hard it is to do a fucking wall jump...
Personally I feel that placing you directly in Samus' helmet adds a ton of action, but I understand how some people don't like like it. I was pretty much raised on Prime as well, which may have something to do with why I can't get a grip on 2D Metroid.
It's kind of difficult to describe, but you kind of delay the jump button slightly after pushing away from the wall rather than in sync. It's similar to the space jump where it's easier to wait for your trajectory to start downward before trying to jump again. I'm in the same boat regarding that shinespark jumping stuff. I'm completely awful at it, then I'll watch totally mediocre players on YouTube nail them easily. =(
I think the Prime series are good games, but I prefer the 2D games more. It translated to 3D a lot better than I thought it would, but at the same time I don't think it being 3D added as much as it took away. Not for me at least. Super Metroid and Zero Mission are probably my two favorites out of the whole series.

I haven't played Other M, but it sounds like they really dropped the ball and turned Samus into a Final Fantasy flower girl. That's too bad, her being similar to Ripley in Aliens was actually a really unique character in the video game world.
A² is doing 3D! It's the end of the world!
Looks great so far. =)
I'd like to see some wire shots to check out the topology, but obviously you don't have to.

Updated my Facebook for the first time in like a year. I don't think I've ever posted my stupid face here.

You can get away with curves on males. However, even on an effeminate male character the shoulders still need to be a little bit wider than the hips or it'll almost certainly read as female. Scarf doesn't really help, but Square Enix gets away with dressing guys in far more ambiguous things than that so I suppose it's just a matter of taste.
Great work though. I like a lot of the stuff on your Deviant Art.

Game Profile Customization FAQ
post=214435
As far as I can tell, the only difference is that I didn't have the "td" in after the "tr.odd" and "tr.even" parts so... what is the "td" for? (I'm assuming "inherit" is just taking the values I've set for #game_frame, which are the same as the ones there, so I don't think that is making a difference).
Basically the more specific you style something the harder it is to override. If you have say:
div table tr td { background }
div table tr { background }
any tr with a td in it is still going to take the first style over the second since it's more specific.
If you run Firefox you can get an add-on called Firebug that makes it really easy to test CSS on your page
Basically you can "inspect" any element on the page and it'll list every style effecting it - you can edit it and see the results live (it's temporary, refreshing the page loses anything you change) - after you get something you like copy-paste it over live.
Game Profile Customization FAQ
I don't have a game profile here so I don't know what all you're given direct access to edit and what you have to override. So these may need !important depending on how you do it.
1) Click on the Review or Download tab. How do I get it so that hovering over a box doesn't change the background colour? Also, why does the second one always seem have a white background when this doesn't seem to be a problem anywhere else?
Each row has an even or odd class attached to it so if you want to you can zebra stripe it easily. Code below will basically strip the :hover and zebra striping out using the same black color you already appear to be setting.
2) When you are on a certain tab, the background colour of that tab at the top goes white. How do I change this?
It throws a .current class onto the tab to identify which page you are on. You could probably throw inherit here too and be alright if you don't want to identify which page the user is on at all.
3) Is it possible to change the transparency of the white overlay that appears when someone hovers over an image?
Yes, but it's kind of difficult to explain. It uses a transparent png which you could replace. It's not terribly difficult if you're pretty good with CSS but it's a bit outside the scope of a simple forum post. :/
4) How do I change the background colour of the "Posts" and "Reply" headers above those sections?
As Kentona said they have an image set on them. You can either change the image to link to something new, or if you just want a solid color change that.

I agree with Wolfcoder. With the contrast of the characters and the background the same, it looks like the entire thing is overexposed and they get lost. Where the earlier one the more saturated colors on the characters kind of balanced it out
Regardless that's extremely good. It doesn't look isometric to me, but it does look more like maybe a point and click adventure game than an RPG Maker game so I kinda get where it comes from.

Craze Hates Dungeon Crawling
I don't like most of them because battles are usually the focus over exploration.
Random battles are awful because they interrupt your thought process too much. KC(A) set it up the best I've seen where you could clear out the enemies and concentrate on the puzzles/exploration all in separate chunks very methodically. The only one I didn't like is that place with the ladder/bridges maze and the dragon thing that chases and attacks you over and over. Similar problem to random encounters with that one. You're concentrating trying to figure out the maze, but constantly get interrupted for a pretty uninspiring battle.
I think I just don't like Turn-Based RPG Battles very much
