Makerscore is a quantitative representation of your contributions to the site. Certain contributions net you a certain amount of makerscore, for example, a tutorial will get you 30, while a completed 5-star game will get you 750! You can find your total makerscore under your name in both your user profile and under your avatar in posts on the site. You can see a summary of makerscore earned by clicking on Submissions in the toolbar above.
As you garner more makerscore, the space in your personal locker grows (at roughly the rate of 40kb per point of makerscore).
Makerscore is recalculated in an overnight batch job (so when you don't see immediate changes in your makerscore, go to bed! Everything will be better in the morning).

So, question: Does contributing assets/work to a game count for makerscore? For example, the maps many of us are doing for Wyrm Warriors?
Technically, I think you'd get markerscore if unity credits you on the gamepage as an "Others/Maps". I recall a few people that specifically asked to be taken off that list, so, I imagine that if you want to be put on, it's a matter of

...and I have no idea where that random '2' on my MS came from.
Probably from posting in the feedback section.
Which, btw, is not listed in this article.

I'm thinking it's from somewhere else.

Oh good gods, he didn't. That's what I get for answering a call for help. Thanks Marrend, solves that riddle.
May I ask a question?
Under the 'Submissions', specifically 'game blog entry' and 'game download', is the ms increased by each consecutive entry/download? or is it increased only by the first entry/download?
e.g: 25 people download my game, do I get 25 * 15 ms or just 15?
Just curious...
Ah also, how do you get something featured? Is there a criteria or something? Not that I have works worth featuring, but I just wanted to know.
Thanks!

Of course you may ask, that's what this place is about. No the download is for you putting a download link on your game, not for people downloading it from your page. You do get additional MS for 'blog posts, though.
Featured game is made by the admins and mods, but there is a suggestion thread in the forum for games that people in the community think deserve a mention.
Mr. Kentona,
I was wondering...
Do you, by chance, have plans of making the makerscore system automated? Like, the changes would appear instantly, or near-instantly? Currently it takes ~12 hrs or something close to that. The advantages of doing so would include the removal of some burden from all of you admins. Not that I'm rushing you all, it's just that it's fun to see that number increasing, fast.
Thanks :)

karins_soulkeeper, it does run automatically (when it's working properly), just once every 24 hours at midnight, so depending on when you submit something it can take from a minute to 23h59m for MS to show up.
e: Kenton, that multiple downloads is it for different versions, like a RTP and non-RTP version for the same game, or is it only for each new game? I was just wondering.

@nhubi, is it running once a day because of server limitations? I don't really get the sense behind a 'once-a-day' update, other than if the servers are too heavily loaded in the first place.
I was wondering about this too...

From what I am seeing of my own download submissions, each download is it's own instance of Makerscore. So, if a game would have multiple downloads, they would each be worth 15 MS.

From what I remember of previous questions of this nature it's the way WIP (the original owner) set it up and since it really makes little practical difference whether MS turns up immediately or with 24 hours, that's the way it stays. The only practical thing MS give you is a slightly larger locker on the site to store content, so unless you're at capacity when you submit something and need the extra room, it's really not urgent.
I do understand that feeling of watching it go up is important to some, but I'm afraid unless something changes you'll have to content yourself with delayed gratification. :). Just for your info, I'm not a mod or admin or anything of that nature, so I have no idea about the server load here.
Yeah, WIP coded it as a job to run overnight, to recalculate everyone's score. I don't know what his rationale was for that.
I do have intentions of revamping the Makerscore a little bit (especially as it pertains to average scores and reviews), and change it so that its something like 25ms for the first download and 5ms for each additional one (or something like that - I have it written down somewhere)

Wow, if you do that Pom's creator is going to overtake your MS overnight, even with Hero's Realm in your corner! I think the idea of acknowledging a game that is successful and popular is a good one, but I'm not sure a direct download=MS is the best way, especially as the system can be scammed (though I'm not sure who'd want to do so). I only know this because there have been a couple of times that I've started to download an older game for review, only to realise I've chose the RTP rather than the non version, stopped the download well before completion and picked the right one, but both downloads show up in the game count.
Perhaps a MS boost when certain milestones are reached, first, five hundred, ten thousand etc. Maybe with an achievement badge to go with it as a bonus.

I think he means Makerscore per downloadable version offered by the creator, not every time the game is downloaded... the latter would spiral out of control very quickly.

Ah, yes that makes more sense, thanks slashphoenix, it would create some huge MakerScore for some with the other way.
Does the "complete game bonus" apply when you mark a demo as newly completed, or does it only work if you submit a finished game from the start?
