Description
This is a short collaborative event project wherein we create Ghost House levels in SMBX. We will then judge and critique the levels, and after a period in which we all work together refining the levels, I will compile the best levels into a game called Mario's Mansion 3.
Timelines
Initial Level Submission Period: September 21st - October 14th
People are free to sign-up and submit new levels for this period. The goal is to accumulate around 10-12 levels.
Level Refinement and Rejection Period: October 16th - October 22nd
I (and any other volunteers) will play the submitted levels and make judgments and refinement suggestions (and rejections) over this period. We will collaborate together to make some good levels! No new level submissions allowed during this time.
Compilation Period: October 23th - October 30th
We will take the final version of the levels and compile them into a single game. I'm not good at world maps so if someone with experience with the world map editor wanted to volunteer to help, that would be all kinds of awesome.
Release Date: October 31st
Obviously.

Submission Rules
- You must use SMBX v1.3 (the download link is in the Engines page if you don't have it already)
- There is no limit to the number of levels you can submit. (But only the best levels will make it to the final game)
- Rate the difficulty of the level on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being easy and 5 being hard.
- No bosses!
- Have fun! (Most important rule)
Level Rules
- The theme is Ghost House levels or other haunted locales, such as Fortresses. However, other spooky settings will be acceptable (assuming they meet the quality standards). All levels are part of one giant, continuous ghost house, so think about how your level can fit into the greater whole.
- All levels must end with the SMB3 ? Orb, which should be positioned in front of a SMW Ghost House door. This shall be the standardized way to end each level. Don't include broken black borders, or SMW goal posts.
- If you want to include secret exits, feel free! But we should make sure there is a reasonable amount of coordination in secret exits. Secret Exits should use the SMW key and keyhole.
- The player can't enter a no-win situation. At any point where the player is safe they must be able to complete the level.
- Levels are for Mario only. No other playable characters are allowed in the compilation.
- Levels MUST have a checkpoint. The check point will be the Yoshi's Island ring style. Don't include the striped check point poles.
- If your level requires a springboard, P-switch, falling platform, or other NPC to complete, make sure that this NPC respawns.
- Main power-ups will be the Hammer Suit and Stop Watches. Use the Yellow Stop Watch, not the green one, which can be carried. Stop watches can cause glitchiness in areas where it was not intended to be used.
Refinement Period (Level Quality)
- Levels that don't meet a minimum level of quality will be rejected.
- Levels must be complete and level endings must be possible to acquire.
- If you are creating an autoscrolling level please check the Autoscrolling Tutorial for a guide of how to do it. Using scrolling layers leads to physics and collision issues and levels with these issues will be rejected.
- Don't make a Kaizo style level.
- Don't pretend you don't know what a Kaizo style level is like
- Levels can't cause SMBX to reach a volatile or glitchy state nor can they cause level/section wide slowdown in SMBX.
- Participants who submitted rejected levels will be notified of such, the cause of rejection, and a period to correct issues.
