About the Contest

The theme of this contest is scary movies, and creating an adaptation of it in game form. It can be an RPG, a platformer - any kind of game genre. The main goal of this contest is to see how well you can transfer a movie into another platform, and whether or not you can “crop” the necessities to make a good short game in a limited amount of time. How “true to the film” you want to be is entirely up to you, though it is preferred that you try and stick to the movie as well as you can, for it will be a category in the judging process. If not, then it is fine too - just be prepapared to possibly suffer some point loss depending on the judge.

Rules
General Rules
* The game must run on Windows XP or higher, the judges should not require any additional components to play your entry.
* Games should contain a text file containing instructions on how to play your game, as well as properly documenting any resources you used!
* Games started before the start time are frowned upon.
* Entries must be submitted before the deadline to be accepted.
* Extensions will be granted only in truly exceptional circumstances. If extensions are given they will apply to all participants.
* Your movie must be on this list of Horror films from IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/genre/horror. If it isn't, you will definitely be losing points.
* No games that are made from movies that are made from games (Resident Evil, Silent Hill, etc.).
* Your game can be made in any engine and can be of any genre, not just an RPG.
* Although this is a competition, you are expected to show proper sportsmanlike conduct to your competitors. Trash talking and the like will be frowned upon.
* Most important rule: Have fun!

Judging
The categories for judging will be: visual appearance, audio, interface, game play, tasteful adaptation score, and overall impressions. This is pretty general, however the one category that is different from other contests is how close to the movie is your game or "Tasteful Adaptation". It is entirely up to you if you want to make a scene-to-scene adaption, or just draw thematic influences from a horror movie film. Just beware this category! :)

I'm not comfortable with any idea that can't be expressed in the form of men's jewelry

I modified the rules to be a bit more clear to make up for people asking about random stuff that isn't really scary:

"Your movie must be on this list of Horror films from IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/genre/horror. If it isn't, you will definitely be losing points."

Having a signature is too mainstream. I'm not part of your system!

Well that doesn't really clear up anything. My second choice isn't even considered horror on this site(but it is on others) while movies like "shaun of the dead" still qualify.
Dude...you have 9,829 films to choose from! You have a good amount of variety to go with!

I hate to be the one who has to bitch about this but half of those even I wouldn't consider horror.
Well Horror is a different genre from scary movies in a way. For example there's a lot of comedy horror (like Shaun of the Dead or Braindead or stuff like that) while there's films that scare you shitless and make you really unsettled that aren't really horror films (like Silence of the Lambs and other simlar movies)

Apparently on IMDB The Others doesn't count as a horror film either. And that's a great scary movie featuring supernatural stuff like ghosts... :(

Wouldn't scary movie count as a horror movie then?
Nope, it's considered a comedy only.
Personally I wouldn't count it as horror. It's too far into pure comedyshit to really count as horror. Just like I wouldn't count Epic Movie as an epic fantasy movie.
Would you count Date Movie as a romantic comedy?

It's essentially a parody of a horror movie just like shaun of the dead is.
I'm hoping Nosferatu (1922) counts because I got scared of it when I was a kid.

The difference is that Shaun of the Dead is a parody that at the same time is a viable entry into the genre. Another example of a parody that at the same time is a viable entry into the genre is Scream.

EDIT: Or a non-horror example would be Kick Ass which is a parody of superheroes while still being an entry into the genre.

Also I wouldn't consider Date Movie a Romantic Comedy.

Scream is a parody? I don't think so.
Scream is a parody. It's making fun of all the horror movie cliches while being one itself.
really? i didnt know that. but it makes sense.
Scream is not a parody. :P
Scream pokes fun at the horror genre, but it soooooooo not a parody. At least not on Shaun levels.

I look at Shaun the same way I look at Zombieland. I consider both of those flat-out comedies that just happen to feature zombies. Neither one is scary in the least, but they're both hella entertaining.
Whenever I try to think up some ideas for this (not implying that I'm going to do it or not), I keep on think up something that is funny; horror movies are so easy to rip on and parody.
