Or you can beat an ox to death with a log wrapped inside a large piece of paper with the legend of Paul Bunyan printed on it.
Regardless, your post was best.

Kids are the worst, amirite?
author=pianotmI loved that movie. Bought it on bluray when I saw it in a bargain bin at Superstore. I haven't watched it yet, and I keep meaning to, but I think it is a little too dark for my (nearly) 2 and 5 year olds.author=DarkenWell, one point about "The Last Unicorn" is that it isn't directed at any particular demographic. The book wasn't written to go after a particular audience. So the movie wasn't made with the idea of "Oh, let's go after the 'My Little Pony' crowd." Plus, with a cast like Mia Farrow, Jeff Bridges, Alan Arkin, Angela Lansbury, and Christopher Lee, the acting isn't going to sound like it was done by the cast of Highschool Musical.
the last unicorn actually had some of the core animators of ghibli before they were ghibli. speaking of which
re-watching it recently the movie has a really raw feel to it. some of the voice acting is a little off, not in terms of quality or anything like that, but you just don't see these kind of performances in a kids movie. i was actually surprised that I would like this movie after so long, like maybe it was just liked for petty cultism. but no it does hold up, i think it's up there with akira in terms of taking its audience seriously. disney fails in that regard even the classic ones. The only exception i think is like, the first 10 mins of Up*.
I also watched flight of dragons which isn't nearly as good but it has the same charm in animation and feel. also gorebash is a kickass name. i guess theres something about early 80s animations and their oldschool cels that stick with you for ages. why did i become a 3d animator again
*: disney doesn't even win that one since pixar but whatever
Then there's the content of the movie. The movie doesn't just entertain. It makes you think. It sends a very strong message out with the fact that Mommy Fortuna has to disguise the Unicorn as a unicorn so that that's what people will see.
I agree about Disney movies and that's always been a complaint. Even where the original story had a tragic ending, Disney has to change it to make it a happy ending.
I did draft a game idea based loosely on the story, though (well, based on it and the novel The Black Unicorn by Terry Brooks, which I later found out was also inspired by The Last Unicorn).
After 6 years of service, my cellphone died a couple of weeks back and today I finally upgraded to a new phone, a Samsung Galaxy S5. I am already missing my out-of-date cellphone. XD
It was a U.S. Cellular phone with the LG logo at top and it has a flip-out keyboard. I am describing the phone because I forgot what it was called, lol...

i recommend Land before Time for some joyous fun
author=DarkenThat movie... I actually found it more traumatising than Dark Crystal, Labyrinth and Last Unicorn combined. >.<;author=kentonai recommend Land before Time for some joyous fun

It's odd, thinking about it now. Mum was really careful with what we watched growing up (she's super religious) but we got to watch those movies and ones like them without much issue. I guess she figured we'd be able to tell fantasy from reality even at that age.
Oh kentona, it's a bit aged now but I figure the Star Wars fan in you would like it - there's an animated series about Ewoks floating around from the 80s. It's still a pretty enjoyable series for what it is. Apparently you can get the DVDs though I've only ever found the first, myself.

Urrgh, I grew up with Ewoks and even when I was little, I didn't like the show. It was on at the same time as Voltron in St. Louis and Voltron always won out. The Land Before Time, I actually saw in the theater when it came out. I think I was six or seven. I don't have a lot of memories of it.
most parents dont watch the stuff they give their kids, i think my parents just never gave a shit. i watched akira and ninja scroll when i was 6

Happy Birthday, America! This all-nighter of Mountain Dew and mak gam is for you!
author=DarkenMy brother was exposed to Watership Down when he was four. Fucked him up to this day (his own words).

I also own Land Before Time, and Secret of NIMH too. Time to traumatize my children tonight!!
E:
I say this as my 2 yo is watching Bee and Puppycat for the umpteenth time. I imagine the ending is pretty freaky for a 2yo. Bravest Warriors is his second favourite show, too.
A lot of the things kids watch - unless they're really graphically striking (like Watership Down as a perfect example) - seems to go over their heads. That said, my sister had issues with the Wicked Witch of the West until she was about, oh, 13 or so. Prooooobably didn't help that we'd chase her around cackling in the dark or hiding some glow in the dark WWoW toy in her stuff for a few years.
Man, kids can be assholes, can't they? XP
