WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW?

Posts

pianotm you did not read a thing I said + substituted in something easier to get angry at

you can built arguments to remove the burden of research from people all you like but please don't involve me in your efforts
also god Lib I'm so upset that that 'when' is more of an 'if' these days

Harper has spent his term cultivating voter apathy and misdirecting public opinion and in spite of his monstrous negligence he has a fair shot at holding his position

a fixed term of office would be a really nice thing to have right now!
I do agree that showing baby seals is the best way to get people to care about their plight, but it's hard to separate 'people are killing the baby seals' from 'this group of people are killing the baby seals, but this other group needs to kill the older seals for food to live' and often it's the second group that gets shafted and hated on for 'being murderous and killing the cutes!!!'.

On the one hand, people need food to live. They do have the option of moving away from those lands, but who would gladly leave the home they've lived in all their lives just because someone tells them the culture they were raised with is in the wrong for eating something that they need to survive? Not many. It would be like someone telling you to leave your house because the ants that have infested the place and that nameless people who've never had to be in your position don't like that you've been killing them. You wouldn't want to leave, especially if your family history is tied up in that location, and over something as silly as a bunch of ants.

On the other hand, what if they're the last ants of their kind and cannot be relocated? Do you allow that rare species of ant be systematically destroyed because some dude in a house doesn't want to move and won't stop killing them (even though they cause a legit issue for him so that doing so does make sense?)

And then you've got a third party - some assholes who come around and stomp on the anthills because they make money off it (somehow?). They're the real danger to the ant hills, but the nameless people demanding that the ants be saved aren't making the distinction between the assholes killing for the sake of the money and the person who does so because he needs to in order to live in his ancestral home. And what happens when he has a family and they get into the act of killing the ants as well? As his 'community' grows, the danger of the ants disappearing grows more and more likely, especially as with each death, the assholes get more money due to the rarity of ant carcasses and thus, keep killing them.

It's hard to pick a side.

Fixed terms have their pros and cons. I'm sure there's a fair amount of people who wish Obama could stay in presidency instead of having to pick one of the bumfucks currently running for office, for example. On the other hand, we in Australia are desperate to finally rid ourselves of Abbot. If only he'd call the fucking polls. :/
my main thoughts are that it'd be weird to lean on native traditions to change without first eliminating such cruelty in private commercial practices. whether it's appropriate in the modern era or not, the fact that native seal hunters are thrust into the spotlight of the subject while large companies enjoy relative invisibility strikes me as really strange.

but I gotta snooze or else I'll be even more garbage at articulating what I think about this!

@Liberty, All that can really be said is that there has to be balance. Stopping all death in the world is a pretty ridiculous idea...and probably unwise. The natives need to be able to hunt in order to survive, but what is everyone else doing there? A balance needs to be struck. Now, I'm afraid to say anything else because...well, I guess it was too much to ask to have a civil conversation.

@Mawk: Nah, I'm with you on that point 100%.

It seems you're actually both in agreement but enjoy arguing with each other so much that you make contrary points just to do so. XD

Basically, you both agree that the native people have the 'right' to hunt the animals while corporations should, frankly, fuck off and go find other ways to make money that doesn't include driving creatures to extinction.

That point on 'no death' is silly, though, piano. I'm talking eliminating human-based deaths, where possible. Animals are quite capable of killing each other and humans joining in the mix is when the delicate balance falls out of whack.
final thoughts: oh my god general pepper is really fluffy and cute

well, I guess it was too much to ask to have a civil conversation.

also before you pass-agg at me don't forget that you're the one who drove it into 'mawk doesn't want me to have an opinion' territory and I've chosen not to engage seriously with you since that tremendous display of bad faith

don't poison the well and then blame me for not being a team player when I don't wanna drink from it

e: and especially don't use me as your terrible excuse not to put together an argument in a discussion I'm not involved in. however much you want me to be some kind of harpy waiting in the wings to censor innocent opinion-havers, I am not and cannot be this for you. if you decide to take your ball and go home because I said you were uninformed once, that doesn't really have a lot to do with me.

Of course I agree with him. That's why I never block him. He writes something worth reading. Unfortunately, he want's to be an ass all the time, and you know what...

We should add a : next to the M for maker score. Because then your M would be
M :3 and it would fit so fucking well because it's cat-face~

I think you both pull each others' tails and/or expect one to raise an objection so jump the gun on getting all gung-ho at each other.

I like to think that it's your way to duke it out over who has the best cat avatar on the site. I'd love to see you both team up on a gammak just to see what would come out of it. XD

you are literally over ten years my senior.
also, like, please don't make this out as a good-natured rivalry or whatever

I've had friendships where we fought at every opportunity and still liked each other! they're a lot of fun! this isn't that, though, and it creeps me out when people drop my name like we're each other's foils when really I only think of them as some unpleasant nobody.

and okay but seriously check out this dog

while it's impossible to accurately know the underlying psychology, it's been thoroughly observed that a pet's relationship to its owner is similar to that of a young animal and its parent

You can see the love in Watson's eyes.
You can also sense the worry in relation to the quote below.

Speaking of HvsM, I finished inking the cover. All that's left is tones, colour and the inside slip.

I just absolutely DESTROYED the final dungeon of Final Fantasy 7, and it was all thanks to Cloud's Ultima Weapon.
