WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW?
Posts
I rediscovered this old classic and now I cannot get it out of my head. Constantly thinking about the lyrics -_-;
I've received an interesting PM from a user by the name of rpgstudios:
Now, aside from the fact that they are using the singular "game", and that they are not specifying which game they are showing interest in (my partial assumption is Might be Magic), I wouldn't feel comfortable putting anything of mine on Steam. I mean, my stuff tends to use ripped resources (for the most part, it's music), and that just feels all kinds of icky to me. Though, the thing that's really giving me pause is this "backtobasicsgaming" thing. Like, I swear I heard that name before on RMN, and not exactly in a positive light!
I love your game and love the Style,
What we would do is launch your game on steam, and market your game for maximum exposure, We would only take 10% of sales and steam take 30-40 which is really harsh,
I currently have this game on steam which is one of mine called Warriors of Vilvatikta

What I can do if you wanted to market with us is Add your game to our website www.rpgstudios.co.uk
and publish your game via our marketing department, "backtobasicsgaming" who handles all our marketing
And if thins go really well we could do a collaboration on a game :D
and be part of our team if you wanted.
look forward to hearing from you

I got the same offer, and I got similar offers in the past, although I don't remember if it was from the same guy. I would just ignore them. I mean why would you give him 10% for basically clicking a button, which is all you need to do to get the game on steam. The fact that steam takes "30-40%" seems like bullshit too, although I haven't really checked how much steam takes.

Don't you also need a license and to have surpassed the holy trial of greenlight in order to submit games.
I did not hear it was as simple as clicking a button.

I got that too XD It's strange that someone is sending those. I wouldn't bother with it. Just ignore it.
Steam takes 30%, which is the standard. Hell, they are STEAM. They ARE the standard.
And yeah, looking in the logs, he sent about 50 or so PMs to people. Copying and pasting the same message, but he sent them manually, judging by the timestamps. He seemed harmless at first blush (I think he sent SnowOwl a PM a few days earlier). I assumed he was just a naive kid. Now it's confirmed. He got a 1 month banne for being a spammy annoying kid.

There's some pretty questionable stuff in their contract, so personally I'd advise against it. They tried the same thing on RMW and when people pointed out stuff that worried them, they sent in a "Shut up or we'll sue" demand of the site, so the site just locked the thread and banned them.
But yeah, I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw an elephant, and I've been skipping arm day whilst ill, so...

Oh dear. Rpgvideos is the guy who made Drayt Empire, and apparently their publisher is good ol' rips in commercial game Dan.
I dunno, I talked to them in pm before on steam, and they didn't really seem to shady(and they were a pretty chill person). But that does sound pretty weird and spammy. Sheesh, maybe they ARE shady after all.

Back to basics gaming... aka "lets publish games with edited rips in 'em and delete any mention that anyone makes of it on the steam forums!"
Yeah, don't go with them guys. They've also stolen another's game before and published it before the creator could, thus forcing the original creator to dump the whole project else be labelled a thief themselves.

W-wha?? When did that happen?
There's shady scammers in all areas of life, isn't there?
author=FroggeQuite a while back. The tower game they've got? Stolen from another dev. Makes sense since it's one of the best games they have on their profile (of otherwise shitty games)author=LibertyW-wha?? When did that happen?

So I'm hanging out in the party room with my water balloons. I yell "from downtown" before throwing one at someone. They come up and give me an item worth 1,000,000 gold. It's cool.
I would love the offer if I knew it was legit lol
