Eliminate male, female and no gender. Character creation in real life will become much more detailed.
Delete a couple of the elves too. I think there are too many kinds of elves.

I've recently been exposed to a laundry list of the 96 different "genders" and I feel like somewhere along the line, something has gone horribly wrong.

people ought to focus on who they are not what they are

I'm thinking about whether I should focus on app development or game development to get out of the hell that is my current job.
I may or may not be coming down with some kinda rash... >.< That's not good!

@King That's tough. ;w; I say do what makes you happy, although from what I understand game dev doesn't bring a lot of financial security (which tbh would personally bring me a lot of happiness XD).

RE: genderpalooza

Sex isn't really a binary. Depends on what you consider the most important aspect of being male or female and at what point you can't decide. For example, males tends to have powers more testosterone than women, but this isn't always the case, therefore, saying high testosterone = male isn't universally right. Generally, sure, they fit the bill, but if you can be a man or woman without something then it's not a defining charactersitic. All you have are trends, oooorrrr, it's not just a "you are one or the other" thing. It's a spectrum.

As for gender, people should probably realize that not everyone's perception of the world is the same. If they feel that their gender is why they act or feel a certain way, then more power to them I say. A lot of the time, I don't understand something, but saying that people should change how they identify with themselves because it doesn't fit my own perception of the world just seems... silly? Also quick note that having a label to identify with can be super important or unimportant depending on who you are (or what label it is) so things like

author=Seiromem
people ought to focus on who they are not what they are

are a bit silly too. Especially when you consider that people can do both. Like, that fact that I'm a swimmer and a game maker is a very important part of me, and people wouldn't tell me I should focus on "who" I am rather than "what" if I casually said that I identified as such. Like, dude, that is a PIECE of who I am. what do you even mean when you say that? Should I have some abstract, indescribable sense of self? I'm not knocking that - it sounds cool in fact! - but I dunno seems a bit off to me.

Those are just my (somewhat rambling) thoughts on the subject though. ^.^

Having sex with two people at the same time is not as fun as it sounds, mostly because the average person isn't as fit as porn people seem to be.

The question was:
author=Corfaisus
What's the key defining factor between gender and personality?

Saying they intermingle and leave it at that doesn't really answer the question, because then we have the possibility of millions of "genders" (this is something people want). We may be stardust, but that doesn't mean we're entire universes.

And even if you can argue that we are, there are still laws that certain aspects of the universe run by. What law governs your gender? Is it the way you dress? Your emotions? Is personality a direct result of gender? If so, what constitutes true personality?

Is personality a "social construct" that can be redefined by prevailing scientific discovery, or are people just "stuck in their ways"? Then where's the difference between personality and knowledge? Can personality be discarded with a better theory?

If we end up having millions of labels, how do we use them to find someone like us (sort of the reason for having labels in the first place)? What truly defines us if the difference between labels becomes so minuscule so as to be indiscernible?

In a way it reminds me of that one scene from The Incredibles:
It's like music genres and elves. You start out with your basic stuff but then you add on a bunch of stuff that exemplifies the stuff "you" like. So you get melodic progressive neo metal (not to be confused with melodic progressive nu-metal, those posers). And most people are just happy with listening to "well I guess it's metal", but there will always be those guys who wants really specific labels to all of it "No but what kind of metal! It is very important so I can suggest all these bands that you'll probably like. But I won't know if you like Anthrax or Within Temptation!"

Or maybe it will hit closer to home. RPGs! Do we really need millions of different RPG subgenres? (yes, yes apparently we do)

"So, which Final Fantasy is your favorite?"

"I've never played Final Fantasy."
"What?! Did you just assume I play turn based RPGs? How dare you insult my tastes, tabletop scum!"

Super Mario RPG is hiding in the corner crying "why do mommy and daddy have to fight?"

Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

You. You define you. Nothing and nobody else. You do not need to conform to what anyone else thinks your label is or means. That's kind of the point. There are no fixed labels. You decide your label. If nobody else is using that label, that's fine. If the label you decide on is very close to meaning the same as another label, but you don't feel like using that label, that's also fine.

Previous remark that I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject still applies, however.

That's stupid. Nobody except you gives a shit about your stupid fucking intricacies. They just want to know whether to call you "he" or "she," and whether you have the type of genitals that they like to have sex with.

Anywho, the topic of genders and genres got me thinking, so I went to wikipedia for Music Genres:

A music genre is a conventional category that identifies some pieces of music as belonging to a shared tradition or set of conventions. It is to be distinguished from musical form and musical style, although in practice these terms are sometimes used interchangeably. Recently, academics have argued that categorizing music by genre is inaccurate and outdated.

I can every bit imagine this as 'genders' and 'persons' instead of 'genre' and 'music'. What a weird convergence between our cultures view on genders and genres.

Maybe we will have hierarchies of genders soon, too?
A person's gender is a conventional category that identifies some persons as belonging to a shared tradition or set of conventions. It is to be distinguished from sex and sexuality/sexual preference, although in practice these terms are sometimes used interchangeably. Recently, academics have argued that categorizing persons by gender is inaccurate and outdated.
This is becoming harder than trying to classify products derived from tomatoes. x.x

the idea that gender and sex are different was only started by transgender people less than five years ago, how can it already be considered outdated? are our counterculture movements becoming as short-lived as our iphones?
