Funny, I tested it by playing with uTorrent running, and Google was taking like 45 seconds to load its search results, but Diablo ran perfectly. The latency wasn't actually slowing down the gameplay. Maybe that's not true for everyone though?

If you got disconnects then yeah I can see that being a problem, but... well, that falls under "don't have internet access" to me. If you're being kicked off the internet by something then you essentially don't have real internet access, I assume this happened because you have a laptop with a broken wifi antenna or something? Or is your router like my friend's old one where every time someone turns on the microwave oven, everyone gets kicked off the internet?

I have 100 mb optical fibre connection. And no I don't get "randomly kicked from internet."

Just Diablo 3 disconnects.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

@SorceressKyrsty:
Where what shit happens? Disconnects don't just "happen", they are caused by something. Almost always, this is something in your house or apartment.

If you get disconnected on wifi it's because either your antenna or your router is broken. If you get disconnected on 4G it's because your antenna is broken or you're out of range of the towers. If you get disconnected on a wired connection it's because your router is broken.

It's true that (super rarely) the ISP's service might go out, but when that happens you don't reconnect a few seconds later - it's down for hours. And when you call they don't say "deal with it", in fact they don't say anything at all; you just get an automated message saying that they have a high volume of calls and cannot take your call at this time. Random brief disconnects, though, are caused by the user's hardware.

Cheap routers don't have a very long life span. Power surges or bad wiring can damage them over time and cause them to start periodically disconnecting you. Our old house had bad wiring, and routers would start acting up after about six months. You can typically get new routers for free though on Cragislist, lots of people have them sitting around and will give them away. Or you can buy one for the cost of a sandwich. Failing routers are the #1 cause of "random" disconnects and you should try to replace yours if you're having problems.

@Happy: if you got booted from Diablo, either your connection was down or Blizzard's was. Frankly I find the latter a little hard to swallow. They have been doing this a long time and know exactly how big the load on their servers will be, and tons of people are having no problems at all. I would look into your router. Do you play other online games? If you don't, then you could be getting random disconnects and never know it.

What are you talking about? They had some serious server problems at launch and a lot of people are still plagued by connection problems, so you can't really rely on their side of connection being stable, either.
Man there sure are a lot of users with shitty routers dealing with power surges

It seems to all be cleared up now, though. My assumption is that most of the people still complaining about "connection problems" are just butthurt that they can't pirate the game and are finding any excuse to bitch. I would go so far as to say that I think it's more likely that people are lying about having connection problems to make Blizzard look bad than it is that Blizzard's servers are still having problems.

Anyway, "A lot of people are still plagued by connection problems" is not evidence that the connection problems are on Blizzard's end. I was actually thinking that "LockeZ does not have connection problems" was actually proof that the connection problems are not on Blizzard's end, but I just realized that was faulty; depending on how their server routing works, the local servers closest to your home might be having problems, while the ones near my home aren't. So the problem could be either yours or Blizzard's, but I still trust Blizzard more than I trust players, and I still think it's really dumb to just automatically blame them instead of trying to do what you can on your own end to fix it. Maybe the problem is on their end, but you should always assume it's your own fault and do what you can to fix it.
I'd make a 'The plural of anecdote is data' joke here but that requires a sampling population greater than one. Tin foil hats optional.
Im going on about two days waiting for a ticket response as to why my install doesnt work correctly. They said 24 to 48 hour wait, so Ill see.
I am in no way butthurt about not being able to pirate the game, I loved D2 for years, and actually gave blizzard twice the money for D3, just to show support (and pay off some debts to them from the past).

The problem is, while playing in the morning (EU), I get around 100-180ms, which is somewhat fine, and doesn't hurt the gameplay a lot. But in the evening, it can go anywhere from 200 to 400ms lags, and it shows. Spell animations are delayed (wizard raises his hands, only for Electrocute to pop off half a second later than it normally does), monster and player positioning gets messed up. (fighting a Waller monster pack, or even the Act 2 Boss, during those lags.... not funny at all)

In a game that relies so heavily on player positioning and quick reactions, this is unacceptable. In any other game (LoL, Modern Warfare 2, Guild Wars, even WoW) I can get around 25-95ms, stable and smooth, almost all the time, so it is not a problem on my side.

If they can't give us smooth online experience, then hell, I WILL whine about not having offline singleplayer in such a fast paced game.

Yeah, my latency was up to 1700 last night or some on odd, but only on my demon hunter which also happens to be my hardcore character. I really hate the possibility that my hardcore character will probably eventually die from latency issues rather than a lapse in judgement on my part.

Also regarding the big event at the end of the third act... (definite story spoilers)
Even though I knew beforehand that Diablo was going to take over Leah (it was spoiled for me), I still felt really sad when it happened and it was genuinely creepy knowing that it was no longer Leah talking, but Diablo... HOWEVER, it also pisses me off because Blizzard pulls this exact same plot twist with every single game. Hero turns evil or ex-hero turns good again. They do it in EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. THAT. THEY. MAKE. Can't they do something else for a change?

UPRC, Blizzard knows how to make really good games

once.
Let's not pretend Diablo 3 didn't have major connectivity issues. However, the game is amazing in spite of them.

Diablo 3 is the devil of torrenters.

Anyone who plays Diablo for the storyline is an idiot.

Well, it used to be somewhat interesting back when Blizzard North existed.
I enjoyed Diablo 1 and 2's story, myself.

So did I, but D3 has the guys behind Starcraft and Warcraft lore deciding where Diablo goes, so it's a little hammier now for sure.
Early Trip Report: Based on disconnects between the three of us the guy who bought the collector's edition got a lot fewer random disconnects. I wouldn't be surprised if they got priority in "servers are shit drop some players". Also jesus Blizzard give your cinematic team some respect: Either pay up with whoever you contract your server farms to (IBM?) to deal with the congestion or use a bit of common sense so players who get disconnect don't get kicked out of your cinematics and have to rewatch them before relogging back in.
I stopped reading after they insulted SWTOR.
