QUESTION FOR LAZY PEOPLE

so all of the lazy people out there, how is it that you keep with your projects all the way to the end, it just doesnt seem possiable sometimes. so i just wanted to ask
As a rule, we don't.

The only real option is to rid yourself of your laziness. Either by reworking who you are as a person or by finding the passion necessary to carry you through. Neither is easy.

The only thing that has really threatened my projects is too little time to actually continue working on them. This goes for anything: A piece of art, a piece of writing, or even a game. Time is always the biggest threat for me. Generally I will just leave something as-is and come back to it whenever I'm feeling motivated and have the spare time for it. This can be anywhere from a few days to a year.
Well for a more helpful answer, I talked about this in an article awhile back.

Anyway since you are a self-admitted lazy person you probably won't read it so I will give you the skinny:

1. Write up a document beforehand and set benchmarks. Make these benchmarks reasonable. Your first goal might be to produce a working prototype, then to produce a single interactive area, then to produce a complete interactive area, then to produce one cutscene, etc.

2. Sketch your game out first. Don't start at the beginning of the game and go from there. Work on bits in the middle, then the end, then the beginning. Make the most important parts first, and then fill in the less important scenarios. It's like drawing a picture -- you sketch an outline first, then draw in the details. Worst case scenario is that you abandon the game, but you can quickly tie up loose ends and you now have a complete short game instead of the beginning of a long game.

3. Set a reasonable scope for your project. You do not have the stamina to make a Final Fantasy clone, right? Well then don't make one. Aim for a manageable workload that you can actually deal with. A dungeon crawler, a 5-hour RPG, whatever. Besides, not many people want to play a 50-hour long RPGMaker game anyway.
I guess i stick to my projects i make because i am very interested in them. I wish i had more time to work on them but i just don't. Usually if i start to lose interest in one of my projects i will either move on to another project or quit using rpg maker for a while then come back.

I'm sorry I'm just.. to lazy to answer that question :P

If I lose interest I just take a break from it or do something for the game that doesn't involve rpgmaker like spriting or tiles?
Wow, Him gave really amazing advice.

I don't use rpgmaker anymore (I'm just here because of an addiction started 9 years ago), but if I did, I would definitely follow Him's advice.
Unfortunately, Him's advice doesn't work too well for remakes. But for new games, I'd agree. And just how many RPG Maker games are 50 hours long, anyway?

What's more, I have yet to find an entertaining RM game that lasts that long. I wonder why that is?

I can't say that it's actually entertaining the entire time and there are better RPGMaker games out there but LoD really is more than the sum of its parts.

Same here. I haven't really touched RPG Maker for a long time, yet I feel compelled to stay... regardless of how hard I try.

I CAN'T QUIT YOU, RPG MAKER SCENE.
I have spans of time where I don't work with RPG Maker, but when I do work I tend to pace myself, accomplishing set goals and whatnot.

As far as laziness goes, you could be doing something productive instead of sitting in front of that screen all day.
^My dear mother's advice.
I consider myself to be lazy, however sometimes I get this sudden burst of inspiration to work on my game....like I had last night which faded when I had to reboot my computer :( Anyway, I feel like if I abandon my game, the people who are looking forward to it (like the person who got me started on the game to begin with) would hunt me down and kill me.

SCHOOL IS NOT CRAP

Holy poop, dude YOU NEED SCHOOL ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE LAZY AS AN ADULT

Also, I used to have this problem. I still wax and wane, but I find that the best cure to being sick of a project is to stop spending all your time in front of a computer

I still wax

Wow dude I did that once but it itched so much when it started growing back that I only did it twice (I can never learn my lesson the first time).

Also, this.

There's also Onyx. That's anywhere from 50-60 hours.

Anyway, I don't really have much of a problem working on a project, but I find I'm less motivated to do so during college. Oh well.
