ANNOYING RUTS

Ever have that one thing come up whilst working on a game that just annoys the piss out of you?

Writers block, can't find that ONE sprite you were looking for, and so on.

For me, right now at least; it's this damned track. I simply cannot find a good regular boss track for the life of me.

Having done the first boss already, and working on the second; I don't want to listen to this crappy placeholder theme while testing anymore.

Music.

I have a hell of a time finding an appropriate MIDI for a particular area a lot of the time.
A lot of times I won't be sure if I want to do something in the story, and it will hold me back for a long time or I try and work around it to come back to it, but it just really messes me up.
It's almost always music for me. Sometimes though, I just can't figure out what I want certain NPC's to say. I try not to make them so generic and pointless so it's hard sometimes finding things for them to say.

Also monster skills can sometimes be a little annoying as well.
"Alright, I did the multiple floor maze, the regular straight path with some splits that leads to some treasure, the obligatory teleport mazes, and some basic switch puzzles. I'm out of ideas and I've got... another ten dungeon floors to make."

Originally it was around nineteen, so I am making progress! Its been the biggest hurdle to making any significant progress. Everything else I already have (monsters) or it takes little time to make (monster tactics). Its just making those damn maps be more than just a boring walk with the occasional fights.

(That and I am very lazy)
One of my biggest annoying ruts are spriting battlers and tilesets. I was trying to go "original" but it turned out that I still need to make use of others' graphical resources
Philadelphia uses a very complicated equipment selection so it took awhile to finish that.

Other then that, though? It's mostly college getting in my way.
First one would definitely be music. I must search the entire web just to find a good enough song and even then i still might not be that satisfied. The second one would definitely be work. I work a lot of hours a week plus filling out documents etc when at home as well so after all this, having dinner and spending time with my girlfriend i just won't have the time to sit down and continue with my game. These are about the only things that annoy the hell out of me.

THIS. I like having lots and lots and lots of monsters, but if they're all LOLATTACKATTACKATTACK the variety is near-useless (although I suppose it's acceptable to have HARD HITTER and QUICK HITTER in an ATB situation; most of my creative juices go into VX however).
90% of the time I have very similar issues like finding a new mp3 to replace these old ones that so annoy me over time (if you know my game you know why each video has a new song half the time for the cave)

Also my major issue is bugs and writers block. If a code is bugged and hasnt been fixable based on my own knowledge I end up just leaving it be and saying screw it till I get help or advance later, when it comes to making the story or into, etc, I can invision the story and how it plays out perfectly like a movie, but once it comes time to code it just like I see it, either the text of characters is too bland or the event isnt good enough, like maybe hero isnt moving enough in the event or someone died the wrong way.

I tend to get picky on my own features, its so easy to make a damn menu system or add things to my ABS, but damn I hate writers block for the life of me.

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed so many people are held up by music.

Since I write my own, I'd have to agree with that, until I upgrade my studio. (I click the notes on a staff which takes an eternity and is somewhat discouraging) Once I get my MIDI keyboard and soft synth, the music will be flyin.
Some of us are hampered by a severe lack of musical talent. And artistic talent. And thus must rely on things like good game design to make our games worth even downloading.
My game is let down by battle programming and enemies etc. I fucking hate doing that. If there is someone here who likes doing that then Kryberia may become a full game one day.
I am staggeringly brilliant and talented in every area and never ever have any hangups or ruts of any sort.

I wish that I wasn't lying :(
Graphics. Having all those lovely little piece of paper with sketches of GUIs and then you sit there.

And you have to make them into the game itself... To me it just feels that even making placeholder graphics takes forever and forever. And it's really only bars and lines that you have to make sure are JUST the right height of pixels and ARHG ARHG
Eh. If I need graphics, I make them. If I need music, I improvise some. If it's something beyond that, I go crazy and stop working for 24 hours.

Towns.

For some reason I just cannot pull myself to mapping out towns. I hate making NPCs. I try to make them as interesting as possible, but I usually end up making such huge towns that they're fillers.

Enemy Skills.

I love making player skills. I hate making enemy skills!
My main rut is finding good damage for skills and attacks... this wouldn't be so hard if I didn't like to make CBS's. In that sense I am like Harmonic, because I like to program the player, just not monsters.
