WHAT DO WE REMEMBER?
Posts
RPG Maker in all its forms has existed for a while now. Good games have come and gone. I want to know if you guys have fond memories of any old RPG Maker games that now are hard to find (or don't exist anymore) on the internet.
What do you remember?
What do you remember?
Used to be a site called 'kamain.com' where I'd find lots of awesome games before I knew much about RPG Maker. That's where I found a game called 'The Slime Bent on Revenge', one of the first RM games I ever played. I have only ever been able to find that game here after the original site shut down.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I'm gonna go with The Most Stupidest Game Ever: Re-Duh. Which was an RPG Maker 2000 game full of RTP mapping, the simplest possible default combat, 100% default enemies, and a ton of terrible monty python quotes. It was glorious.
The first website I ever found on RM2k was RPG Dimension, 12 years ago. Most of the features and downloads are down now, but the first games I played were Delusive Choices, Redmoon Saga and Illustrious' Forever Across Dreams.
I also remember playing something called Kindred Saga. I was quite impressed at the time because the developer managed to code a custom SBS, and it was the first time I got to listen to Romancing Saga's awesome music. I knew at that time that I wanted to learn how to code lots of custom systems.

I guess the first website I found was gamingw.net (when it was in its glory days), but the first RPG Maker RPG I played was actually Romancing Walker, which caught my eye in queenscourt.org, a website that used to host the Misaos. It was awarded the Best Complete Game of 2004, so I gave it a try, and never looked back since.
Romancing Walker may not be lost, but is a classic and a gem. It was a fun game due to its engaging humor (even with the Engrish) and unique because of its theme as a romance style RPG. It's also the only RPG Maker RPG so far which I've played twice. I'm never one to play RPGs more than once, not even the best, but Romancing Walker is an exception.

This post is about a site, not a game. There used to be a fun little RPG Maker site called War of the Magi that was basically a melting pot of members from Don's forums, GGZ, Gaming World, rpg2knet (or whatever that site was called), and others. With so many people from various sites coming to War of the Magi, you'd think that it would have been mega popular. It wasn't and was just a nice and quiet little corner of the RPG Maker community with a really diverse population of which most of its members shared a love for Final Fantasy 6 (I think the name gave that away).
Some of the cooler folks over at War of the Magi that I recall were Magnus, leafo, Silhouette, and a few others. It was definitely a great little site.
Out of all RPG Maker sites, it was War of the Magi that liked what I was trying to do with Blackmoon Prophecy the most, and they gave me the most encouragement for sure (until late last year/early this year at RMN). Great site and great people. The site may not be around anymore, but some of the people still are and are scattered across various sites now.

I can't remember how I first learned of RM2K... it was 10 or 11 years ago, and I downloaded it and messed around with it a bit before realizing I had no clue what I was doing. So I searched for games other people had made, for inspiration, and that led me to the first Blurred Line demo. I fell in love with it pretty much immediately. I attempted to find out more about it, which led me to Don's forums which I hung around for the next few years.
Aside from ABL, some other games I liked back then were Tales of the Wind, Tyrant God Saga: AP, and Three the Hard Way (which is still probably my favorite RM game).

What was QHeretic's game? Was it Kindred Saga? I remember it having what felt like a truly amazing CBS back in the day, though it is anything but in this day and age.
I also remember this one game by Staind (I think?) that was all hand drawn and starred a bunch of ants and other bugs. I forget the premise of the game, but I recall liking it quite a bit. Was it called Bugz?

Kindred Saga holds a special place in my memory.

Romancing Walker, I agree, was a classic. It was funny and quirky and just made you feel awkward in the best possible way.
Being the ABS guy that I am, I look back fondly on Shattered Samurai, which was the first ABS game I ever saw for 2K. My computer was slow (by slow, I mean Legion Saga II had lag), so I didn't get the full experience out of it, but I wish I still had it.
Hmmm... I remember only two games in particular that I had fallen in love with 10 years ago. A Blurred Line, and Sunset over Imadaul. It may be a bit harsh of me to say this, but despite the community working for 10 years more, There has not really been many rm games that stand out beyond those two classics. Kind of sad, really. I blame the sheer over saturation of unfinished rm projects.
I remember playing this game called Battle World RPG, back when HBGames.org was rmxp.org, and before TREG stole the kingdom and yadda yadda.
... The dude mixed rips of this indie beat-em-up game with Final Fantasy, Pokemon, and the RTP graphics, the mapping was horrid and the storyline was idiotic (you were some fighter guy trying to save the biscuit factories from being destroyed. The biscuits also held of highest importance in this world because "they give you stats." That was a direct quote from the game). It was also horribly bugged and was long. I wonder if the author ever finished it.
I have a screenshot of some of the most memorable dialogue from that game:
Good times... Were they?

I first downloaded RPG Maker XP but switched sometime later to 2000.
I remember Dark Skies as one of the first 2k games I played, and I also remember two others.
The first one had an orange-haired guy in knight armor and the worldmap and interiors used Chrono Trigger graphics.
The second one was about some green-haired elf going to find mushrooms, and surprise surprise, his village has been obliterated.
I joined WombatRPGs quite a bit later and became known for my incomprehensible, bizarre posts and tendency of starting projects and not finishing them.

I remember the frontpage of GW and thought "Cool!"...but then to realize that it never changed...
The cool thing about RMN's frontpage is it's really dynamic... always new things popping up here and there :)

I'm hurt that you don't remember I was a co-founder of WotM, UPRC. :(
