"I couldn't wait to tell you guys; I will be posting something tomorrow"
I'm fairly certain this is referencing the blog I put up not long ago, but I posted that because I won't be around to do the posting and a bit of stuff like spell checking in the demo, so I'm having someone else put the download up for me when it is ready. Basically, I'm posting it now cause I won't be able to do so tomorrow. At least what I posted was informative.

WIP ARE YOU PROUD OF WHAT YOU HAVE CREATED?! WHERE IS THE RPGMAKER MESSIAH!!!
My suggestion: take blog posts off the frontpage. Problem solved.

What is the exact problem that is happening? People posting dumb things? I learned a while back that there is no stopping people from posting dumb shit. Especially in the case of offering someone a means for them to communicate with their users (both existing and potential), it's hard to restrict that in any good manner. Policing the content is about the only way to do it and that wastes manpower and can send mixed signals on what is "acceptable."

Destroy RMN!
I'm going to make a blog post about the last cheeseburger I ate while working on Runic Cipher. Stay tuned.
It's an equity thing, really. Games get bumped to the main page via "latest blogs", and it's unfortunate to see people with in-depth blog postings get bumped off by one-liners (or multiple short blogs from the same project in one afternoon).
I don't understand why some people would be against that but it doesn't really matter.

I am against over-moderation. There is a reason this community has a reputation for being elitist, stuck-up snobs. I am all for upholding quality and standards on this site, but turning RMN into a police state where nothing can be posted without scrutiny isn't the answer.
What's more, the users of this community are very, very, very good at whining and screaming and making a big fuss when they perceive there's a problem, but very very bad at actually fixing said problems. They think there's bad blog content, instead of promoting good content, they blame the mods and bludgeon people who make bad blogs until they're run out of the community. It's rare for people to volunteer to help.
Want someone to police the blogs? Volunteer to help police them. It isn't fair for people to pile more and more work on kentona.
Or perhaps WIP is right and blogs shouldn't be on the front page. We have subscriptions for a reason. These are things to consider in the future.
You know, maybe even a check thing - if blog has more than x words, allow on front page, else don't. That way you don't have to police the different blogs but only the quality ones get to be shown off.
That said, coming up with something to say in a blog isn't that hard. I mean, what, 300 words ain't exactly super difficult. I've probably managed to write as many in this comment already.
Well, maybe not, but at least 100, yeah?
If you can't think of something to say about your project, there's something wrong with you. You could wax philosophical about the properties of your battle system, talk about what you've learned about such and such or even point out design aspects you think may have been missed. Hell, give a list of thanks or credits. Talk about where some of your ideas from, why you chose certain colours, how old this project is and why you even chose to make it. God, there's a plethora of things that can be said in a blog. How can people not find something to talk about?
Talk about religion, politics, sport or weather if you must.

Stuff
Considering there was literally no moderation regarding blogs I dunno how making sure people write at least a small paragraph as opposed to just one sentence can be considered "over moderation". And if this community has a reputation of being "elitist, stuck-up snubs" is not because people are actually being mean but because other people see the entire foundation of their fuzzy, little worlds crumble by even the smallest dissenting opinion, and thus decide it's better to leave than to listen...
Which leads me to my next argument. Can you please point me to all the whining, the screaming, and the bludgeoning that there has been regarding this subject lately? Can you name names, also? Because I don't see any of it. Geez! I don't think things were as ugly as you're describing them when the Shmup guys were around. ...If just trying to put forward ideas about what's good and what's not for the site can be considered all those things then it's no wonder why we have 'that' reputation.
And lastly... I'd have volunteered since day one, but I don't see Kentona giving any slice of power to me or anyone he doesn't know for like forever. I think it was Tau? who volunteered to become a Mod to cover for the lack of Mods on his timezone or something, but his offer was swiftly ignored. So, if the problem is that Kentona can't do this alone he should approach people he trust to do it, even if just temporarily... Others and I can already do our part by reporting blogs we think break the rules.

Who has been demanding that Kentona and Co. do this? Give me their names and I will call them so many names....so many...But they are volunteers. Volunteering is what old sages called " double edged sword." If they didn't want to do this, they could just say "I'm not gonna do it."
How would you suggest that users promote good blog content when the actual visibility of blogs on the front page is such that any blog, no matter its content, can be pushed off by another one?

There is a reason this community has a reputation for being elitist, stuck-up snobs.
This is because of the community's ridiculously high standards for hobby-gaming, not because of over-moderation.
But I do agree with over-moderation in regards to the forums. Why do we even still have General Discussion?
@alter: Kentona has mentioned before having trouble delegating, so I don't think it's necessary to rub salt in the wound there.
Perhaps removing blogs from the front page entirely is not such a bad idea either.
I have been in communites all around the world (Japanese, Chinese, French, English communities) and rmn.net is most probably the most lax regarding moderation. I guess it's all a question of comparison. When Schmup was still around, the moderation was plain nonexistant. You've been around here longer than I have, surely you've noticed that the ambiance is much better than it used to because Holbert decided to take a stance against nasty little pricks.

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The buzz section accomplishes this remarkably well, actually. Simply by responding to a good blog post, you are increasing its score, and therefore its visibility.
