NEW RULE: STOP POSTING SHITTY BLOGS
Posts

Alterego, you did complain about it/start this up. Only you and possibly Creation were noticeably 'angered' by all of this, and while one-liner blogs are stupid, there is no reason to endlessly bicker about them.
Actually, this discussion should probably end.
I remember one which came up just to throw my blog off the front page. When I checked this blog, It was only about the poster dropping something and an 80's music video.
author=alteregoOk, but I hope most of you understand that the purpose of blogs are for very important game development news and such and these things cannot be done in one liners.Even if the Topic is like:"I've changed Mika's Charset" I don't think it would fit as a one liner cuz you gotta tell the reason why, show what it changed into etc. They cannot be "Hello my game is 25%".author=StarSkippingTypical... Well, I don't know about others but I always tried to be polite whenever I approached people about their blogs, and you can go trough my post history and try to prove me wrong if you want. I stand by all the "stupid stuff" I wrote... Now, I don't know who did talk to this person you speak of, but chances are it was Deckiller and he's way, waaay nicer/subtler than me. And if this kid got his feeling hurt just because of that, chances are he would had run anyway as soon as anyone criticized any aspect of his game or behavior. So, what was lost again?
Honestly this wasn't even an issue in the first place. If I remember correctly it was only the one or two members going around and saying stupid stuff like "WHAAAA! ONE SENTENCE BLOGS! WHAAA!" And just harping on them in general.
But let me get this straight, you are actually in favor of "increasing site standards and better moderation", right? You even thought this rule was "a step in the right direction", didn't you? This is just your knee-jerk reaction to some kids' overreaction to criticism... Well, don't you think that maybe you're misplacing the guilt for this particular happening over the rule itself and those of us who were vocal about it? Uh?
And just so you know, I always welcome a pinch of snarkyness in people's posts, but you may want to word things a bit better from now on if you want this conversation to go any further. I've gone on lengths about all this before and I don't feel like wasting my time now.
I stand with the Mods here.*Please correct me if I am missing anything here cuz I am not feeling well*>.>
My 'minimum character count' for blogs idea : Was there a technical reason not to implement it and I missed the explanation?
Because, with it, we wouldn't be having this discussion. All parties would be satisfied. Newbies would be faced with a simple mechanic to overcome, rather than a seemingly personal attack from mods and angry regulars (I'm guilty of this too :( ). You might get the occasional "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" but whatever.

Actually Deckiller gave a heads up about the rule which wasn't too bad per say, it probably was Creations follow up post that was unnecessary. And this whole generalisation about him being a crybaby so he would of been useless anyway is actually the wrong attitude to have alterego. For all we could know is that he might of been a valuable member to our community, his game was looking pretty good from what I could gather so there was at least some potential there.

Actually I was being disingenuous with regards to my opening sentence, deep down I always thought the rule was completely unnecessary to begin with, I was just trying my best to be polite. And with regards to your second point, you have to look at the fundamental cause of the rule being implemented in order to understand the effect.

Well it's nothing against you alterego, I've agreed on some things you've said in the past but it's just that I honestly believe that you've dropped the ball on this one, like majorly.

If people would post more to GOOD blogs and ignore the "shitty" ones, I guess it would help? <_<
Already suggested that, according to some people you can't just ignore problems.
how about good game pages in general than just putting all attention to "bad games" *shrugs*
The problem is there's only a few people initiating this example and when there's drama, people flock there.
Frankly I think blog posts for "beginners" and calling them bad is because they don't know the rules yet. Like someone in here got called out by AE and I had to reiterate/translate what AE actually meant by his post because he didn't get it and thought he was called a troll etc.

The blog itself was simply titled welcome and the said blog content was simply a small introduction for himself, (I guess he was too shy/lazy to post a forum introduction). Shortly afterwards the usual moderation rule of upping blog standards was being rammed right into this kids face with a few others chiming in, and then the gamepage disappeared (it was called Silent Night I believe). What I'm trying to say is that policing blogs and intimidating new users by effectively saying your blog is shit do better is perhaps a tad too heavy handed and would most likely scare people off from this site.
Weren't you around when Schmup was still around, StarSkipping? I remember the first comments made about the first game I uploaded here, the Ark of Gladoria. Craze and Tardis tore it apart mostly because they considered one of the faceset looked gay. Those were the hardcore days when Jericho was still around, nothing compared to now. Where were you then to set things right I wonder.
I personally said: ''Do improve your blogs please'', I don't see it as being nasty or impolite but courteous and decent. It was perhaps not necessary but it's far cry from a personal insult.
Honestly this wasn't even an issue in the first place. If I remember correctly it was only the one or two members going around and saying stupid stuff like "WHAAAA! ONE SENTENCE BLOGS! WHAAA!" And just harping on them in general.
I don't know if this aimed at me but I stand my ground. Taking a stance to encourage quality blogs in a courteous way is definitely a good idea in my book, whether or not the majority agrees with this or not is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. I don't mind if you think improving standards is a bad idea, I don't.
So this rule is effectively appeasing one or two of our members who decided this was suddenly the biggest war crime on the internet. Don't get me wrong, I'm all up for increasing site standards and better moderation, we already have an review, demo and gamepage submission queue.
Then freaking act like it bro. Improving standards involves making changes buddy, you can't have your cake and eat it too. No offence but I can't help but get this from your message: ''I want the website to improve quality stantdards but I don't want anything to change in order for those standards to sink in.'' I mean, how else do you expect them to take place?
it's aimed squarely at the small majority of members who keep on pushing for unnecessary rule changes.
Whether or not encouraging higher standards for blogs represents a majority or not is something you have absolutely no clue about. You can assume it is but unless you can mind read the silent majority, it's a shot in the dark.
Just like to add that this post is not directed at you kentona or the rest of the staff, it's aimed squarely at the small majority of members who keep on pushing for unnecessary rule changes.
You know, if Kentona decides to implement the change I guess he's probably partly in agreement with the small minority.
I don't know how good of an orator this message makes you but you strike me as a poor ambassador of respect. While I commend your interest in the well being of newcomers, you don't much of an hesitation of qualifying as stupid opinions different of your own.
I guess it all boils down the Max McGee paradigm, where one appeals for respect and human brotherhood but have little hesitation in describing a fellow creator's game as shit.
"Be not too hasty ... to trust, or to admire, the teachers of morality; they discourse like angels, but they live like men."
I was just trying my best to be polite
And you came across as badly passive agressive :(.
I honestly believe that you've dropped the ball on this one, like majorly.
Good day, sirah.
Alright, here's how things will stand for now. I'll keep cracking down on the one-liners, but I'm going to be lenient with the rest as long as there's some content. There's really no consensus to do anything more at this point.

And I'm going to simply disagree with you because without ridiculing my position you have nothing on me. There's not even a way you can hold me responsible for some kid's truncated rm career; The decision to leave was his and his alone, and as soon as he realizes how silly that was he can come back and truly be a valuable member for this community.
Edit: @chana: StartSkipping referred to him as a kid first, I just took his word for it. Either way no one is insulting him nor his work.
Considering the quality of his work, I'd say the "kid" is probably hardly one, and certainly nor fragile nor silly! I don't think adding personal insult to insult of his work, is the best idea.
If anything this episode demonstrates that the proper way to deal with this issue is NOT to publicly call people out on having "shitty blogs" and making a big embarrassing show about it.
I'll be discussing this with the other staff members and I recommend the rest of you calm down a little and step back before this gets too heated. Pointing fingers isn't very productive.

If you don't mind me adding something else... That reasoning is not really accurate. A simple "Anything else you want to tell us?" (Which is Deckiller's usual reply) or a "Do improve your blog please." (Creation's reply according to him) are far away from being a "big embarrassing show". People have gotten upset and even leave over reviews too, but the problem is obviously not the review system, nor is the (public) enforcement of this rule. The problem is -always- the people unable to stand criticism. =/

I don't agree, as I wrote above, when I read the commentaries on the blog, I was shocked, and I had nothing to do with it.
Is this really an issue worth getting so fired up about? It seems like a small minority is making a big fuss out of something that's really not worth it.

Wait, this isn't how the site works?!

Nah, that's not entirely true. A comment can be anything it wants to be, including a bit of news address to all. Most of the shitty blogs are small bits of information that don't warrant a blog and should have been posted as a comment. The only difference is that one is on the frontpage.
Imagine if a newspaper ran stories like "City Hall decides on the green drapes in the lobby". You wouldn't see that on the front page. That's a "shitty" story. I don't think it's wrong to show off the best looking information. Or at least push the nonsense aside.
Who is going to care that you reduced the cost of ethers in your game? The people who have shown interest in the game by subscribing. No matter where you post on the gamepage, those subscribers will get notified. Making a blog isn't the only way to communicate those pointless "updates".
It's like people who advertise their game in the forums. That's not the proper way to use the site. I would suggest that incessant pointless blogging isn't the proper way to use the site, either.
You guys are hopeless, it's always the same with you. Mocking and dismissal over and over. Because, you know, God forbid people talk with each other and reach an understanding. Nope. Whoever writes more than one line around here is making a 'fuss' by default.
Edit: You'd think the effort to downplay the issue and the unwillingness to discuss it would constitute those things, but I guess not. =P

Nope.
This wasn't mocking or dismissal. It was my agreement with the above post.
