NEW RULE: STOP POSTING SHITTY BLOGS
Posts
To whom it concerns:
These are the policies the staff are currently leaning towards with regards to the blog police.
-Blogs that are utterly worthless (one or two sentences with no useful or discernible content) will generally be deleted. Double posting blogs is similarly prohibited.
-Some leniency will be given to obviously new users who clearly don't know the rules yet.
-Repeat offenders will be contacted privately by a staff member.
-If you see a blog of questionable quality, please contact kentona or Deckiller privately with your concerns so that they can take care of it, rather than confronting a user yourself. No backseat modding.
-Please remember that kentona and Deckiller are the final arbiters of what is acceptable material and what is not.
Thanks!

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

That's a nice compromise.

You guys are hopeless, it's always the same with you. Mocking and dismissal over and over. Because, you know, God forbid people talk with each other and reach an understanding. Nope. Whoever writes more than one line around here is making a 'fuss' by default.
Edit: You'd think the effort to downplay the issue and the unwillingness to discuss it would constitute those things, but I guess not. =P
What understanding is that? The users interested in the new features of Heartache 101 are not allow to discuss it because the game might appear on the frontpage? Users can only post "Creation approved" blogs?
Sailerius doesn't think it's a big deal, why don't we just use his opinion as the basis for our decision?
7 pages hardly constitutes "an unwillingness to discuss". Seriously man, who pisses in your cornflakes every morning?

Obviously my post wasn't because of all previous 7 pages... But even in those 7 pages there's not much of actual discussion going on. Look, I'm trying to keep my replies as civil and articulate as I can, but what do I get in return? Every morning I log-in an I see a new post implying how others and I are a bunch of elitist snubs, or how much we gang up on innocent people, or much we're making a fuss, or whining, or screaming. I mean, those aren't very sound arguments, don't you agree? Well, yeah, there's your answer.

You need a very cynic point of view to discern only that from our posts. I've already made an effort to explain all of this. Have you made an effort to understand it? ...Seriously, if you think about it you'll realize this isn't really about H:101, but the buzzing feature. Can 'buzzing' be abused to bring your game to the frontage? If so, something should be done about it. Also, I don't know what is a "creation approved" blog, but an "alterego approved" blog requires very little, and it's for a good reason not just a whim of mine.
And lastly you'd think an 'understanding' would be a common ground between one side and the other, not one arm-wrestling the other. Well, here's the kicker. I'm not really happy how things turned out, but is still a compromise. I abided to this rule since day one. I stopped posting in people's blogs and left all the dirty work to Deckiller. I report blogs to him on a daily basis and respect his handling of things. You'd think that would be the end of it, right? Well, no. My ears can't stop ringing even to this day. Explain that.
I honestly don't think the buzzing games feature is broken or is abused.
I'm sure it can be abused, but that would be very obvious to the admins, wouldn't it?
Everyday I log in and pretty much see 4 new games on the buzzing, 4 new latest downloads, tons of new images and every now and then changed "Calssic Gem" or what have you.
I don't understand where people get all this "abused" crap from, like really?
The frontpage is so fleeting, and no one is plotting their way onto the frontpage for download #'s and page views.
BOTTOM LINE: Why do people "discuss" so heavily and heated for the frontpage/reviews/blogs/etc when it changes in like 30-minutes to an hour later?
The set up right now is great, I see something new everyday. Good games, sub-par games, newbie games, all of it.
alterego, you are making too big a deal out of this like you always do.
There isn't a need for the intense discussion you are always after, there just isn't.
But then again, you must see things waaaay different than the majority of us, because I for one don't understand where a lot of this debate is coming from anyways.
I see things working properly and fairly, just as it always did.

The buzzing game feature was misused once or twice since its inception, but people are mostly good about not 'cheating' because those that do lose front page privileges. Don't worry, we keep an eye out for that and react accordingly.

This.
Alterego, it's not that people don't wanna discuss. It's just that hardly anyone sees this as a big issue. Only you are. In other words, you're only making yourself look bad here. You're being too serious.
Sure, buzzing game feature can be misused. But has it actually gone out of hand? I don't think so, and it doesn't look to be so.
I also don't see what's wrong with Heartache 101 getting "buzzed" if the discussion is about the game in question. Isn't that the point?
If it's just needless discussion about Jack in the Box tacos, then yeah, that's abusing the buzzing feature.

H:101 is essentially a game engine. It's only natural to expect it to get a lot of discussion. RM2kx sure did.

Well, even better. That makes more sense as to why it should get attention and be buzzing.
Is it because some people themselves don't generally like it that they have to worry about seeing it on the frontpage?
You're right, I guess we live in completely different worlds. For example, I still don't get what "heated" discussion I'm engaging on. For me 'heated' would be if I'd be making long ranty posts, or trowing insults left and right; but I'm discussing this in the same way I'd discuss a game mechanic or a screen... And I'm mostly just defending my position after seeing it being misconstrued. If that looks bad, please put some of that blame on PepsiOtaku, Solytaire, and Starskipping too. If not for them this thread would have gone without incidents.
Still, I'm fairly convinced I'm not the problem here, and I think I can illustrate this somehow. Not too long ago I approached somebody with advice for his drawings. This person had made two drawings, one a little better than the other. I complimented the better one and pointed at flaws of the worse one; You know, with the best of intentions to help someone develop his style. Well, soon after my critique, people flocked to discourage the author from taking it into account... What do I get from this? That people is unable to discern quality, or that they are just to happy conforming to pleasantries and silly jokes. Anything beyond that is frowned upon.
It's the same with blogs, or reviews, or anything else. People would rather forget that things can be improved than having the subject being brought up in the first place. "Is easier to ignore blogs", they say. But my whole premise is based in the idea that blogs are a fundamental part of game development too. People constantly ask for feedback in them, and hence they should not go unnoticed. But for people to pay attention to blogs, I believe these need a minimum grade of quality that invites for that feedback...
Anyway, I guess the road to hell IS paved with good intentions after all, eh? ...Well, faq it! =/

I guess it all boils down the Max McGee paradigm, where one appeals for respect and human brotherhood but have little hesitation in describing a fellow creator's game as shit.
FUCK. YOU.
Give me one fucking example of me describing someone's game as "shit" that happened AFTER I started asking people, in general, to be nicer. I double dog dare you. You fucking can't, because it didn't happen. If you look at the comments I've made on games in the past two years, the vast majority of them are overwhelmingly positive. Instead of making negative comments, I just don't comment. Check it out if you don't believe me.
I'm not saying I'm a perfect paragon of respect and courtesy or anything, but I almost never tell anyone their game is "shit" these days.
Weren't you around when Schmup was still around, StarSkipping? I remember the first comments made about the first game I uploaded here, the Ark of Gladoria. Craze and Tardis tore it apart mostly because they considered one of the faceset looked gay. Those were the hardcore days when Jericho was still around, nothing compared to now. Where were you then to set things right I wonder.
They were assholes, someone should have stopped them sooner, their behavior isn't something to tolerate or condone, let alone emulate. If I had retained any authority in this site rather than ragequitting from staff over stupid bullshit years ago, those people would have been banned ages ago.
***DEEP BREATH***
This issue in general is not at all important to me, aside from getting randomly called out as a hypocrite above which I really don't appreciate because it's COMPLETE BULLSHIT.
However, I am very sad that Silent Night's creator ragequit, and I'm going to do what little I can to try and rectify that.
Generally speaking, outside of that, I don't know why this issue is such a goddamn drama storm.
Alright guys, enough with the slinging matches. Let's discuss the issue in a calm manner without dredging up old tales or pointing blame at each other, okay?
We're putting into action something that should handle any issues from now on, as Solitayre already posted. Basically, if you see a questionable blog, report it. Don't call them out, leave that to a mod. If nothing seems to happen it either passed muster or will be dealt with soon.
Now, anything else that pertains to bad blogs that needs clearing up?
